OK, but it's because the new nook last longer, not because we'd be happy with shorter! Nook was wise to drop the power-guzzling LCD strip! Kindle's battery life was and is an important feature (I have hiked the Appalachian trail*!), and now another 1st tier reader has the same advantage. Good for nook.

The Nook finally gets two upgrades I've longed for - good battery life and black color - and in the process ditches two features I still need - audio player and speakers.

Can't win for lose with B&N. Looks like it'll be a Kindle Touch in my future.

I love the lcd strip I'm sad to see it go to tell you the truth
but battery life has become a spec to tout and they just weren't going to do it with it still implemented, let alone the extra costs to production.

I understand why they dropped the lcd panel--but I really wish they hadn't. I liked it, and I didn't care that it was the reason for the shorter battery life.

This is just a pissing contest. However you look at it, both the Kindle and the new nook have an excellent battery life. The actual "numbers" are pretty irrelevant; all that matters to me with the Kindle is that I can go away for a week's holiday and know that I won't have to worry about recharging it.

Yeah, it's like, you totally stole the book business from us, and then the e-book business. You are NOT getting battery life too!

The thing I hate about this is when I don't get close to advertised performance I wonder if there's something wrong with my unit or what I'm doing.

(umm seems like there's a bad joke in there somewhere)
