...through the 7th or 10th(don't recall which exactly ATM) Borders/Kobo is kicking in a $10 gift card here too now... might have something to do with the Nook show an old reader, buy a Nook and get a 2GB uSD card w/30 books deal though...

[EDIT]
also I know that in Canada some things have an additional gov't. mandated addditional cost added to them, e.g. blank CD-ROM/DVD-ROMs to "compensate" "artists" for "loss" due to "copying"... and IIRC there was talk about extending it to solid-state storage devices and ISP surcharge as well, plus knowing Canada I'm sure that there are MANY more of these little gotchas littered through their legal system...
[/EDIT]

There was a study done recently where some academics studied Canadian and US price differences for the same products. After accounting for all identifiable differences in cost such as exchange and freight, the Canadian prices were still higher. Their conclusion was that Canadian merchants charged higher prices because they could. i.e. lack of price competition

Almost like when Walmart raises their prices then rolls it back down to a slightly higher price then it was the day before. And where they ban and assault customers who try to get their lowest price match guarantee.

Australia has a value-added tax ("GST") of 10% which is part of the advertised price, but on personal imports of less than AUS$1000 value they don't assess GST. So I paid AU$130.15 for my US$138.97 Kobo Touch, including with shipping.

I expect it'll retail here for over AU$200, if it ever arrives... The two Australian stores which retailed the Kobo Wifi are in financial difficulty, apparently people are buying books from overseas for cover price, rather than paying 250% of the cover price for the privilege of queueing at a cash register. ^_^

About the price.
About the original thread title.
I'd sure like the Kobo to be even 110$ (I'm in Canada).
But 10$ is not so much for me. I know that Kobo will make a lot of money with ALL the 10$, but like I say, individually, it's not so bad. We're not talking about a 100$ price difference.
Honestly though - that thing is worth a million bucks!

Indeed. The Canadian dollar is stronger than the US Dollar right now, and yet we're screwed on book prices, electronics, cars, gas...the list goes on.

I order a lot from the U.S.

Well, devil advocate's speaking - if Kobos come from the state - it just might've to do with gas price. They are shipped further = charged extra for shipping. However - if the dollar is stronger in Canada I wonder too.
Like I said though - it's better to pay the dang 10$ and get a Kobo.
