Many people report that the units have been tampered with to appear to be the advertised size - X GB but when the user gets to a certain point, the whole thing dies and they lose data.

I always tell people buying from China on eBay is like gambling - don't risk what you can't afford to lose.

There's someone on the eBay boards I used to chat with that for some reason seemed to think it was cheaper to keep buying garbage knockoff iPods from China that would die after a few weeks than invest in a legit one where he could get service, support and a warranty. ??? I could never understand that logic but to each their own right.
I think if I was after high quality gear that had to be a certain standard for specific purpose I would be a lot more careful. The Hong Kong bluetooth devices (arrived today)appear to be genuine and normal. The one we have used (from last month) does what it is supposed to do. That being said, there are Chinese sellers and Chinese sellers. I would not be surprised if some people get bad hacks that don't work.

The biggest risk I took was buying my reader from the US. At the time it was VERY expensive and unavailable in Oz. And yes it is faulty as it does not load pages fully in direct sunlight. However it does what I want it too. I still can't help thinking I would have saved a heap if I had waited another six months.

Here is where I found out about it. Bought it at Target.

That's the one I have as well ... and I love it! I actually had my son purchase it for me when he went to the U.S. ...

I find it works far better than any of the other clip-on lights I tried prior to getting the E-book Lite.
