I still love the library aNAnd visit it pretty often as it still saves me a lot of money. The library still feeds my love of cookbooks with great pictures, craft books like crochet or any new craft I want to check out, computer books (excel 2010, word 2010, etc) and audio books. I listen to the latest audio books on my daily commute and put a lot of audiobooks on hold with the online catelog system.
I have/buy a lot of ebooks for the latest and greatest thrillers, mysteries and favorite authors, but try not to spend any money on audio books, and my library keeps me happy (at least once a week visits) I hurt my back and had a hard time walking for a few weeks, and totally missed those library fixes. And I have to say, that after going back to work first, the library was the next place I visited when my back was better. |

I might check out a few books a year from the New York Public Library. Titles from the big name authors who have e-books for as high as $12.99. (Just not going to pay that much for an e-book, sorry. Paperback, yes; e-book, no.) The best thing about the current market is that it is so easy to support an author I like now (And by supporting the author, I mean SUPPORTING THE AUTHOR, not covering the overhead of some big publishing house). Also, owning is just better than renting in my opinion, and it is great to not have to deal with reservations. The "other people" factor. It sucks to get into the middle of a book and have to return it because of a busy week at the job.
I don't think libraries will completely go away. Free is still free, and there are certain things you just can't download. But it will be harder for the libraries to remain as relevant as they always have been. Especially when it comes to just finding a good fiction book. |

I just recently got a library card, it's been over 30 years since I moved away from my home town were I used the library once a week. I was able to get a $60 Kobo just to use with my card. I still don't go, I only visited to set up my card and do any borrowing over the internet. I've download only three Adobe Digital additions since. I can see myself making a list of current SciFi (Neil Gaiman, King...etc) to take out but still have not done this. I have such a back-log of ebooks that I have not read that I currently have no need to use the library.

I found the last item in Section 3 a bit strange
![]() Borrow a bus (public transit) Schedule? I can get a permanent, FREE download from the Transit agency. Many local government publications are required to have free access (not quite the same as Free cost, there can be a charge for had copies and custom archival research.) |

I've found since owning my Kindle I visit and borrow much more than I did in the past. Quite frequently, I'll buy a new release from an author because of the Amazon or Barnes and Noble ad and then want to go back and read more from that author Many books, I've chosen are not available in e-book format and my county library always seems to have what I want and will send to a local branch for me. I admit, I prefer hold ing the Kindle or even Nook Color at night to a monster book, but the price at my local library is always right..
