I will use my two remaining nominations to provide seconds to these:


American Prometheus by Martin J. Sherwin and Kai Bird . Why? It looks really interesting, just the sort of book I would have read without any other inducement. The only reservation I have is the pricing. Cheapest epub version (Sony Reader compatible) is $11.59; $1.50 more than Amazon or Barnes & Noble.

The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin. Why? This has been on my to read list for years after appearing on a “100 books everyone should read list” by a noted literary critic. That and I always like to see at least one nominee that is available for free as an ebook.

After having a chance to read through the rest of the newer nominations, along with my second for:

The author of one of my favorite short novels, Bruce Chatwin here demonstrates his story-telling ability amidst the realities of travel and the vast world of his extended friendships and acquaintances. The joy of reading his prose is surpassed only by the delight in knowing that opening the book to any page you will be engrossed by the words upon the page. A reader's delight that persuades you with its charm that you should return to one of his other books as soon as possible.
