Land lines have fixed addresses, so it would be much easier to find. EMS has direct access to those databases in each city. Cellular phones with a GPS can send their location to the service provider, wether it is possible for the service provider to follow a location is more of a concern if you happen to be a bank robber, rapist, child molester or someone who cared if their location was known. Personally I couldn't care less if they know where I am, why would I? Do I really think these companies are going to waste their resources to follow me, that sort of thinking is a little paranoid. Hell a lot paranoid.

Just 'cos everyone's after you, it doesn't mean you're paranoid.

Or vice versa, come to that.............

Yes, that's one possibility, except that there doesn't seem to be a such an audio note taking feature on the Kindle, so that is just speculation at this point.

On the other hand - This - is NOT speculation.

But thank god they need a warrant to do that . . . or maybe not

So if they can do this, why are the jails not full of these people they are bugging?

What makes you think they aren't?

But I'm sure you're right of course, it's not like we have a lot of people locked up.

I mean - it's not like the U.S. has the highest incarceration rate in the world or anything like that . . .

Oh wait, I guess we do!

Ahh the irony I wasn't arguing your point, I'm just surprised that if they can do that, why they aren't getting more convictions?

Why does the US have the highest incarceration rate?

The US has some of the longest prison sentences in the world as well as a huge percentage of people who are locked up for non-violent crimes.

We also put people in prison for drug offenses with zero tolerance policies while many other countries try rehabilitate all but the worst offenders.

I think the US also has much tougher parole laws than some countries. Here in Asia, I would say that the drug laws are some of the most extreme, the gun laws here are unbelievable, death for having a bullet, not the gun to fire them, but a cartridge. Yet with these laws, the amount of people awaiting hanging is very high, drugs are very common, pot, hash, meth, ecstasy and of course heroin are all very easy to find and from what I understand very cheap. Yet these same people being caught with as little as 10 grams can be charged and the penalty could very well be hanging.

Better plan on taking up permanent residence in your Faraday Cage and having your friends bring you food.

Otherwise, the bugging software could simply record the monitored audio continuously to the Kindle's flash memory while off-line (a few gigs of memory is good for hundreds of hours with compression) and then wait patiently to phone home to the mother ship as soon as it finds any available WiFi or 3G access point.

If we assume that the Kindle's mic is there for surveillance purposes - who's going to pay for the bandwidth?
