The score from "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum" is really challenging for a high school orchestra.

RENT is my favorite modern musical, though Parade was also phenomenal.

As for classic, i'd go with something Rodgers and Hammerstein, but i've no idea which.

There can be only one:

The War of the Worlds.

What else? It's awesome on CD (never had the LP) but even more so in the flesh.

I loved Mamma Mia and I'm a hardcore ABBA fan (is there such a thing? ). Oh, I know, the songs all sounded different but I rather enjoyed that (much to my surprise).

To answer the OP's question - Mamma Mia is what I came to post .

The most "challenging" one I did was having to do Babes in Arms with quite a good cast except for one of the main characters (who I suspect did her audition on the casting couch if you get my drift). She got to sing "My Funny Valentine" and night after night I had to try to play a beautiful backing on bass clarinet while she meandered through a lot of unscheduled key changes, forgot the words and generally reduced the band to tears or hysterics.
Next on my "challenging" list would be coming in on an hours notice and sight reading my way through the lead woodwind part in that ghastly musical about Orphan Annie. I had never heard a single tune in the musical - they were very forgettable. The only thing I remember was that the composer was very fond of writing in keys with a great many sharps and flats. I cursed him or her between every hideous tune and whatever they paid me was not enough!

Dreamgirls! It gives me the warm and fuzzies. The original broadway cast was best, according to my soundtrack. I enjoyed the movie too, although, Jennifer Holliday vs Jennifer Hudson as Effie White? No contest.

No clue how to embed, though.

It took me forever to figure out how to imbed a video! I think this is how, though. You see the phrase when you choose "share" on a youtube video that says "v=something?" (You can see it in your link above.) Copy just the part that v is equal to, in this case JNaNPgaDjio, paste it in your message, highlight it and click on the "Youtube" tags (make sure you are in advanced mode.) It will enclose it in youtube tags and imbed it. Let's see if it works:

Yep, it works!

Also there is a song from 'Sound of Music' when the old nun sings. Love it to death. I love musicals.
