Hi,

I'm the same as Pooky's girl. I had sooo many books, I love reading them, and collecting them. But I have a small apt! My sisters were always telling me i should get rid of some of them. Easy for the ones I no longer had use for... but that was only a trickle compared the 3 bookcases I had. So, I got a palm to read with first, and then I started reading up on the ereaders coming out. I had no idea about the speedy effect! I've read almost twice as much as I usually do a year!

I think the convenience of having all the books you are currently interested in gathered in one place encourages reading. It's so easy. You don't have to think, "Now where did I put that book?"

In my case, I am a book source -- I buy the things, and my husband is a book sink -- he takes them off me, they disappear and it is possible he will read them within a few years. So quite often I can't find a book because he has had it and now has no idea where he has left it. I am sometimes driven to buying a second copy of a book when I have lost hope of having him return it. Now I have an ereader and he doesn't, I know where any new books are.

The only reason I bought a Kindle was for the free international web access. I still use my iphone as my ereader.

I got mine for Christmas. I was still not sure about what to do, but I wanted one for the major portability. I read whenever I have a spare few moments, and my purse eats paperbacks for breakfast. Boyfriend bought me a cover for the Kindle, so it doesn't die in transit. (:

Thumbs up

We bought a pandgital novel so we could do email and web stuff, rather than read books on it. W have a desktop which ties us to one room. It has worked out GREAT!!

Main reason why i wanted and ebook reader was because of the convenience of it. My boyfriend got me a kindle 3 as a christmas present and i loved it ever since!

-i love to read!
- I don't have to go to an actual book store to buy a certain book that i wanna read.
- I would not hear this response anymore "sorry the book is out of stock, you may have to wait for a few weeks to get a copy".
-goodbye to the heavy weight of books in my bag.
-i can switch to another book right away if i don't feel like finishing it at that certain moment.
-bookmarking feature is the best in an ebook reader!
-i get to bring it with me everywhere!

i couldn't leave home without my kindle 3! best device ever made!

I was going to be 700 kilometres from the nearest bookstore for 12 months!

Once I ordered it from the US (much cheaper than buying one in Australia), the first ebooks I bought were some 700 page trade paperbacks I'd been wanting to read but have physical difficulty holding.

I love having all my reading choices in one spot, my ebook reader is conveniently perched on a stand just behind my head where I sit on the couch. While as other readers above have stated my paper book collection is spewing from the bookshelf on to the floor due to lack of shelf space.

"I'm a casual reader so I thought it was cool to have one"

Kind of funny, since these polls rarely have options that accurately describe most responders, but that was almost the exact words I'd have used to describe my reason.

We got our K2 for my wife, and in her case, she'd have certainly answered "I really read a lot, very convenient device." She could read a novel or two a week, but it's apparently really hard to turn pages when cuddling a clinging child.

But for me, I just thought it was really cool. I love being able to check email, etc, and while I really do not read enough at the moment (I used to commute by train...LOTs of reading then!) to 'properly justify' owning a reader, I couldn't resist getting a K3 of my own. Pleasantly, I find my self reading more now, especially since the Kindle allows me to jump between several different things, and try lots of free samples to see if anything really grabs my attention.

If it weren't for my Kindle's adjustable font sizes I wouldn't read for pleasure much at all. That's the real reason I bought my Kindle 1.

I was in a similar situation (which I think is part of the convenience of ebooks). I told my husband we could either buy another bookshelf (which we really don't have room for), or we could buy an ereader And with all the freebies and deals, an ereader has ended up costing a lot less than anticipated.

Oh, I still lose my "book"... it's just that now when I walk around the house going "WHERE IS MY BOOK?!", everyone knows which book (I usually read 3 concurrently), because there's only one

When I first bought my ereader I was hoping to save money. When I compared ebook prices to pbook prices the ebook prices were cheaper. I thought it would take about 70 books to pay for the ereader.

This no longer true for most agency 5 books.

Having used the ereader for two years, I now use it for convenience.
- no pbooks in piles on the floor
- instant dictionary
- instant book purchase
- portability

My reason for buying my first reader in '09 was for a visit to see family and I have a hard time flying too long (3 or more hours) and figured it would help keep me busy.

It worked like a charm and it got me really into reading. I'm now on my second reader (upgraded) and gave my sis my old one.
