I'm with KindleKitten on chicken as well, if I have to eat chicken again it will be to soon.

As far as raw meat goes, I like to think that the higher powers gave us fire so we could cook meat, not to mention to light our pipes.

Has anyone else tried Fugu? I'm not actually sure you can get it outside Japan. When I tried it I didn't know it was dangerous or that a slightly numb tongue was considered a sign of luck.

Yes, a numb tongue is a sign of luck — that the person preparing it didn't leave in just a little more poison and kill you!

Fugu (literally "river pig") is the Japanese word for pufferfish or the dish prepared from it.

As of 2003, only seventeen restaurants in the United States were licensed to serve fugu; twelve are in New York.

I have noticed that when I go out to dinner, unless it's a steak house, I order something other than steak. I eat so much of it at home that I want to try something different. If it's not a steak house and they don't prepare it properly, it'll just annoy me.

Astra have you tried marinating your steak before cooking them? You could try straight bromelain which is a pineapple enzyme used most often as a meat tenderizer.

The first time I had this combination was at Sparks steakhouse in NYC. I order fillet mignon w/ Roquefort. Whoa!! Does that have some kick. That's when I realized that Roquefort might be a little stronger than my tastebuds would prefer.

How is that scientifically possible?

Even when I have my steak "plain" I'll usually put butter on top of them. Everything is better with butter!

I would not order it in an ordinary restaurant too. Sizzlers are supposed to be professionals and apparently they are

Me?

Astra & coocking are two absolutely! incompatible things.

Having had food poisoning from undercooked meat, I cannot fathom eating undercooked meat ever again. I'd never been so sick in all my life, and I don't care if it angers a chef or shocks snobbier food people than me - I will always eat meat fully cooked.

I am an Orthodox Coward when it comes to eating out (I would like to see the kitchen first!) and eating undercooked, or raw meat or poultry.

Having met one couple who had worms from eating raw meat in one of the most expensive restaurants. (An Aside: Not exactly one the most gracious of social assets methinks.) I am finding this to be a fascinating subject, and tip my hat to those who are brave enough to eat this stuff.

As Erma Bombeck would say, "Never eat anything that blinks at you."

Cheers
