More than that Mrs Josephs that is a rather serious breach of your personal computer security. Amazon should not be able to remove anything from any kindle once it gets into your hands. Here is what I would recommend that you do in order to ensure the security of your Kindle: Never use wifi, the kindle has shown that it has no security when you use the wifi. Simply obtain your books from Amazon and download them to your PC then upload them from your PC to your Kindle, your PCs firewall will prevent Amazon from reaching into your kindle at all. Also look at your PCs firewall and look at who is permitted past the firewall, you should be able to name the software that can get through your firewall off the top of your head and should be able to count them on the fingers of one hand. The only software that can get through my firewall are: Mc Affee Total Protection and Adobe Acrobat, if I don't let Total Protection through then the software will not be able to keep my protection up to date and Acrobat does upgrades on ocasion, although I might remove them. You should be able to recognize all of the software packages on that list and Amazon should not be on the list at any time.

In my state, it's not incest to have sexual relations with your first cousin, but you're still not allowed to marry him/her. And incest only applies to biological relations. |

incest = family relation of any kind, biological or not. This goes for adopted family members, step-siblings or family by marriage (even step-cousins) are all off limits. there is no other way to twist it. Just because nature may not have problems, doesn't make it right.
and jbcohen you are so far off base, just go play with your $30 cheap Vietnamese junk reader and let the rest of us have educated conversations. |

Someone said in another thread that Amazon can turn the Wifi on remotely in order to push updated firmware at them.

Just be thankful she wasn't reading Hamlet.
Get thee all to a nunnery. Also, I strongly recommend taking the strongest precautions to protect your PC and electronic devices from the nasty people out there: ![]() |

The wifi/3G is on, or off. If it is off, the device cannot automatically turn it on, just as they cannot delete, remove or otherwise tamper with the content on the Kindle itself, only the archive on their own website, which is hosted on their server. Also updated firmware is not automatic, it is manual update only, at least with the Kindle 1 and 2, not sure about the 3. |

Also scared by Amazon's ability to turn on wifi by remote and update firmware. Not that this is a bad thing, it means that anyone with sufficent knowledge can turn on your wifi, insert a virus and leave without your knowing it.

Furthermore, today we can analyze the genes and discover that some pairs will produce only deformed offsprings. So, if they have sex, is it incestuous? ![]() Basically, nowadays prohibitions against incest when conception is not possible is largely a cultural thing. Slightly more out of line than gay sex but who knows what we will think about these things in future. |
