Newbie here... Been playing with BD on vista and it is willing to create lrf files, but only up to page 18, as near as I can tell... I've tried 2 different Dickens stories, both longer than 18 pages, and both stop on page 18. Both are HTML from PG.

This is using the "2 step" installation procedure (BD 4.msi and the 7/30/07 update) and the DHTML control has been installed.

Any thoughts?

Sounds as though you're clicking the "Test" button. This only converts the first few pages. You need to click the left-hand "Make" button.

Could well be...

I was doing some testing and maybe my fingers remembered something without telling my brain :-)

Have you installed Book Designer 4.0 and then copied over the contents of the 07/30/2007 update to the Book Designer 4.0 directory? If not, then making Sony Reader eBooks will not work.

jepp i have done everything mentioned in this thread about three times and still no go. the butto is there but when i press it BD asks if i want to save the changes i have made to the file and then nothing, all the other ones work. does everyone else have it working with vista?

edit: could someone who has it working in vista 32-bit send me there Book Designer 4.0 folder? so i can try pasting it oner the one i have and see if it works?

edit #2: what file is launched when selectin Make Sony Reader? is there anything i can do with it?

try turning on user access control in vista. that did it for me, and i was having same problem. then turn it off again when you're done with book designer. you'll need to restart, unfortunately.

Thanks for the suggestion but i have already tried that as it was stated earlier in the thread. what I've ended up doing is installing windows 98se on Virtual PC 2007. works like a charm

That is exactly what I did with bookdesigner and xp. I kept clicking the text button instead of the Make button. Oooops.

Reading all this good stuff for when I get my Vista puter. ha ha, maybe I will be Lucky.

One could hope also that whoever wrote bookdesigner might do an upgrade so it works with vista. Would be a nice thing to do anyways, doncha think?

Since April will be having a fresh Vista system. We can use her as a test bed and see what she can do to get BD working. That way we can write up one set of directions to go into the wiki.

Well gee Jon that is so kind of you. Actually let me get used to the darn system first and then see what happens. I was just going to follow the other persons instructions I found as in, *putting the folder anywhere than under c:/programs.* I don't even think the one I had on the fried computer was there. But then that one always acted weird on me and when I cleaned up tmp files and the such, it always wanted to rebuild or do something @@. Don't ask me. It didn't install the way I wanted it to, ir I remember. Would be nice if this worked for me. I see a few have had success.

New puter should be here sometime Tuesday..... so you will have to play the waiting game. I will scream one way or the other when I attempt this.

Don't forget you'll also need to install MS Word.

I just did a clean install of Vista last night. I'll be using the instructions in this post since they worked for me last time I had to install on a Vista machine...
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...7&postcount=15

...hopefully everything will work as well as it did the last time.

That was one program I was paying for that comes with the puter. I figured the version I had may not be compatible with vista. I hope they installed it..... probably is. Wouldn't that be something if *word* was the culprit in some manner.......
