Plus B&N also probably want to control what apps go on the device. Can't imagine they would be too impressed if people started installing the Kindle app and buying books from Amazon
Once this thing gets rooted, I'm going to install Angry Birds and Kindle.

Yeah; and so far, so good. It'll be even better once 2.2 arrives. Flash support is my number one wish right now.

I see that the NC can organize your books into "Personal Bookshelves." Is this similar to the Sony's "Collections", and can you organize books that you purchased from non-B&N/Nook sources (for instance BooksOnBoard or elsewhere) into these "bookshelves" or is that proprietary to B&N-purchased books?

yeah I can't wait for flash also if it updates any where near what 2.2 did for my Droid X is should add some screen to screen type of animation, that whole in and out look.also it's a bit smoother as well. That was some of the new stuff when my phone updated to 2.2 (Froyo)

but yeah so far so good, I'm really liking the nook color alot.

Why is it that with a nook color, I cannot download an ePub eBook using the web browser? After the ePub is downloaded, the nook color doesn't recognize it and has no idea what to do with it.

You need to go into Library / My Files then look for My Downloads

Silly way to do it. Should be able to tap on the ePub and the reader software open with it.

why? It is a downloaded file, it doesn't run the same codex as the BN sold books.

However, when you go open it from the Downloads folder it recognizes the EPUB format and launches the book viewer. I think it would be nice if it downloaded EPUBs to the Books folder or at least gave you the option to move it. The same thing happens with images in that they go to the Downloads folder rather than the Gallery. My Kindle downloads MOBI files from the internet to the Book List, and then I can add them to collections with no further effort required. However, with the NC download method, I have to connect to the computer and move the files around to the right folders after they are downloaded.

I have a question and wonder if you have an answer. I received a B&N Nook Color for a gift. I am dismayed to find I can't download my Audible audio books to it. I was told I could download MP3 audio books, but now I find that there is a "codac" that prevents it. Does anyone have a solution for this (for a not too techie person)? I tried to download tuneconvert but it wouldn't work on my computer. Also, I am wondering if I can buy Amazon Kindle books and download them to my Nook Color? And what about my tunes in itunes?vIn general I love the nook but am starting to reget not holding out for an android tablet. Thanks for any help, Goldengirl

I use Itunes format (?mp4a) on my NC and the music plays. I just drag and dropped the albums.

I also have an audible subscription and havn't found a "good" solution to putting them on my NC, but I have an ipod and its hard to justify getting worked up because the NC doesn't automatically do the same thing as the ipod. Personally I think this is audible's issue, not B&Ns or Apples. If I buy the books I should be able to download them in any format I want. Won't happen until enough of us complain to Audible.

You can use pdf's on your NC. I do all the time, as well as Word documents.

If you root it, which is not that hard and you can buy an SD on ebay to dual boot, you can use the Kindle Android software and read Kindle books, but do you really expect B&N to automatically allow you to purchase competing books?

I too have had the "should I have waited syndrome" but I've had my NC since day 1 and I've certainly gotten my purchase price out of it and have no complaints that it was money well spent.
