Thanks for the tip! I wasn't aware of the privacy policy.

I don't think you have to 'plan' to carry one any more than you have to plan to carry a paper book, and I certainly see a ton of those around...

I commute into London every day - I see an eBook reader 2-3 times a week. Tend to mostly be Sony ones, have only seen a few Kindles.

I iPads every day...although people generally aren't reading books on them.

I'd say on the average commute

- 40% are fiddling with a smartphone, either playing a game/browsing/emailing (predominantly iPhones and Blackberry's)
- 30% of people are reading a newspaper (mostly the free Metro)
- 20% are reading a paperback
- 10% just look pissed off its Monday.

and about 30% of the above are listening to some headphones whilst doing whatever they're doing.

I live in Kyiv Ukraine. I see readers regularly, but I only saw my first Kindle 3 this week. She (the owner) let me hold it and later we compared Kindles as she'd never seen the Kindle 2 before. I was surprised at the lack of difference between our screen brightness. Didn't make me jealous of that at all. Now battery life is a whole 'nother thing.

I'm sad that the K3 doesn't have numbers, as I use them to find Bible verses all the time.

I've seen one Nook, several Kindles, among the English speaking ex-pats, I know. I see Ukrainians with e-readers I've never heard of. There is definitely a camaraderie among ebook people, regardless of brands. That's pretty cool.

Haven't seen an iPad in the wild yet. Even the apple fanboys in my life aren't impressed with them, so I doubt I'll see them any time soon. If you think Apple products are overpriced in the states, they're probably 60% more here.

Here in New Zealand I haven't seen anyone with a e-book reader. I have seen a few people reading on an ipad tho..

Sidenote: I have had a few people ask me "Is that an Ipad?!" and when I say that it's a kindle, they sound very disappointing.

I've seen several K2s at various airports around the world, a few Sony's, and a few iPads, but never a K3. The ebook readers were all being read by older men wearing business suits and the iPads were all being used by children under the age of 10.

I've had my Kindle 2 for a little over a year and a half, and I've never seen another e-reader of any type other than in a store display. I take mine out almost daily and I've only been asked about it 3 or 4 times (one of those was someone asking me if it was an iPad). I live in the Midwest, but some of the cities I've been in while reading it are big enough that you'd think there were more of them around. I can't believe Amazon is only selling them in the bigger cities.

I recently flew from California to New York and returned. Both flights were full. I saw a few other people with eReaders but not many. Somewhat more laptops than eReaders were present. I think it reflects the eReader market is still in its infancy.

Rarely. I've actually seen more people reading books on an iPad than on a Kindle. Or any ereader for that matter.

I take a bus to the train/subway and do it in reverse on the way home, every weekday here in Chicago. I've seen a total of 2 e-readers and 1 iPad in the last year or so. One was a DX, the other was the red Sony e-reader, whichever model that is.

I did chuckle at the iPad guy, moving and tilting the iPad as he was waiting in the subway station, trying to remove a reflection or get enough light to see whatever he was doing. iPad is so big it just looked silly.
