I'm re reading George RR Martin's the song of ice and fire series. Any recommendation about books in the same genre?

Just finished a rather funny stream-of-consciousness romp by Jass Richards entitled "This Will Not Look Good on My Resume." Review is on my blog (Welcome to the forum, The_Casualty!) |

Hi folks. Just read my first ever 'industrial' crime novel. If you like the band NIN, then you'll know roughly what to expect from KATJA FROM THE PUNK BAND by Simon Logan. What you might not expect is the clever storytelling and the excellent prose. Vying for my book of the year.

Also, The Riyria Revelations by Michael J. Sullivan is a great epic fantasy/action-adventure series. Mind you I started with the second book because it was free on my Nook (I was told each book can stand alone, that's why I didn't start with the first), but I immediately went to get the first in the series. I will be buying the rest as well. If you order via the authors site the books are only $3.99 each.

You should try Brandon Sanderson. I've only read "Elantris," which I loved, but his series are supposed to be phenomenal. He took over the Wheel of Time series after Robert Jordan died (I passed on those, heard a lot of complaints about the series degrading towards to end).

I just finished Thistle and Twigg by Mary Saums. It is a charming ghost story set in a small town in Alabama. It warmed my heart and made me smile. Except for the murders and stuff. I liked it very much.

Sanderson is brilliant! His book Warbreaker is my favourite so far (besides his two WoT books as they truly rocked). And it is true that Jordan started to get carried away towards the end of WoT, but he started to wrap things up and put out another great volume before his death. Then he left extensive notes and finished a bit of the series for the author chosen to finish it up. So glad Sanderson was picked. He really is a true fan of the series and an amazing author.

Recently, I finished reading The A-Z of Punishment and Torture, an e-book by Irene Thompson (illustrated by Catherine Edmunds), a chilling account of man's inhumanity to man. An absolutely fascinating, but nevertheless very disturbing, catalogue of the methods developed and employed by people throughout history, to inflict maximum pain and suffering on their fellow human beings. I sometime wonder how our species has the audacity to call itself civilised. I recommend this book to anyone who has their head in the clouds, for it'll soon bring them back down to reality here on Earth. I am now reading an e-book called The Ballad of Johnny Madigan, by John Bray, about a teenage Irish immigrant who joins the Union Army. I read The Red Badge of Courage many years ago, and have some knowledge of the American Civil War, so I am curious to see how the former shapes up to the challenge of being a really good historical novel. |

Starting on Fall of Giants by Ken Follet. Hopefully it is as good as Pillars of the earth.
