FREE/BARGAIN — Romance & Discussion

Hi all,
I am a long time lurker and I know you guys are very knowledgeable on all things ebook so I thought I'd ask here instead of elsewhere.

I have Calibre 3.4 and the search doesn't work the way it did. I am really technologically challenged (for the record ) and I only ever performed simple search (as that is the only thing I need) - I would type the name of the author or the title of the book (in parenthesis) and I would get a list/group of results. Now, I don't get anything at all or I get a highlighted book here or there, not a group of results or no results. I can't (don't want to ) go through 8,000+ books to find a couple of results.

I think this happened with the latest update or maybe one or two before that. That'll teach me not to update every single time.

I understand that Calibre has many wonderful search and sort capabilities, but I don't need them, I just want my simple search back

If you look in the top right zone, you will see a button called "Highlight"(some strips crossed by a bar). It looks like something has changed it. Pressed it, and only the "found" results will appear.

I was could not find the button you mentioned, but I gathered my courage and went looking into preferences and was able to see that in search preferences the option to "highlight results instead of grouping" was checked, so I bravely unchecked it and achieved my goal

I guess I needed a bit of a push to go exploring

I got all but the Wiggs book it was gone. And the Amish romance because I don't read them.

They are all missing covers.

I had to fix them in Calibre. Thanks to Kovid for helping me figure out how. I don't mess with Metadata these days and it's very rare when I have a cover missing.

2 weeks, and still waiting for my Brooklyn Library renewal to be processed. I did contact them and they said it could take a few weeks, depending on the amount they have to process. Crazy! I didn't really even have that $50 to spend, but the books there are so good, I did it anyway. This may be the last time I renew.

OMG - I'd be hyperventilating! Mine was same day service using a credit card, and I did it a month in advance because a) I'm anal that way and b) I'd be spending my time breathing into a paperback otherwise!

That $50 is well spent. I easily read over $50 a month worth of books! Much better selection than my MD Overdrive (usually) has.

Do you do it all online? I never had issues. I send them a email with ID. They add $50 I pay it with card and the account is active.

Same here. The longest I had to wait was a few days to get the reply back and fine added. Usually it's the same day or next day

When I moved to this area after college the first thing I did was look for the closest public library. Thanks to Overdrive, I hadn't been in there except to update my library card with proof of residency to update my Overdrive status, so I went visiting about a month ago. Had to find where they were hiding all their romance pbacks, and walked over and oohed and aahed, and gently patted my Kindle in my purse. LOL

I shop at the Friends of Library store. A quarter for a paperback is wonderful. Some times they have bag sales. I can get a big bag of romances for only $2
