Do you also have file cabinet drawers full of craft booklets, magazines and patterns?
Filing cabinets, yes. Full of craft booklets and patterns, no.

I haven't added much to them since the digital age began. I have virtual ones now.

So you like to sew or knit or something?

Wikipedia: Gustav Hasford: Library books theft charges

In 1988, shortly before the Oscars ceremony, Hasford was charged with theft after campus police from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California, found nearly 10,000 library books in his rented storage locker. At that time, he had 87 overdue books and five years of Civil War Times magazine issues checked out from the Cal Poly-SLO library; the materials were valued at over $2,000.[6]

Hasford's book collection included books borrowed (and never returned) from dozens of libraries across the United States, and from libraries in the United Kingdom and Australia. Others were allegedly taken from the homes of acquaintances. Among them were 19th-century books on Edgar Allan Poe and the American Civil War.[6] He had obtained borrowing privileges at Cal Poly-SLO as a California resident, but submitted a false address and Social Security number. In 1985, he had borrowed 98 books from the Sacramento, California public library and was wanted for grand theft there.[6]

Hasford initially denied the charges, but he eventually admitted possession of several hundred stolen books and pleaded nolo contendere ("no contest") to possession of stolen property. He was sentenced to six months' imprisonment (of which he served three months) and promised to pay restitution from the royalties for his future works.[6]

Hasford claimed that he wanted the books to research a never-published book on the Civil War. He described his difficulties as "a vicious attack launched against me by Moral Majority fanatics backed up by the full power of the Fascist State."[6]

Anyone can learn anything.
The problem with most people want to start at the Mona Lisa level instead of taking the time to learn the steps first.

In my case, I came from a creative family.

There needs to be a name for someone who does that. Let's see . . . . kleptomaniac is too general. "Bibliomaniac"? Naw, that doesn't say anything about stealing . . . . Maybe "kleptobibliomaniac."

I'm unclear why Gus Hasford's storage locker was opened. Perhaps that's explained in one of these many articles about the matter. What I do know, though, is:
  • Hasford was one troubled guy
  • Ironically, both his mother and girlfriend were librarians
  • A warrant for his arrest - because of the many books he borrowed in California but did not return or pay for - had been issued three years earlier than his actual arrest, but it was never executed because the authorities couldn't find Hasford
  • The opening of the locker (for whatever reason) and finding of those books reactivated the arrest warrant, and it was promptly executed
  • Hasford served half of a six-month sentence and agreed to pay for the aforemetioned books with proceeds from his second novel, The Phantom Blooper
  • Legal issues related to the library book incident affected publication of the second novel
  • This article is quite interesting: The Banter Gold Standard | "The Killing of Gus Hasford" | by Alex Belth | November 14, 2012 9:53 am. I read it three years ago and haven't taken the time to reread it; perhaps it answers your question.

Get a free 12-page pdf booklet of Favorite Recipes for Camp & Cabin Cookin', courtesy of Nature Friend Magazine.

I usually wouldn't bother posting a booklet this small. However, there are usually several recipes per page in the booklet. And it's very attractively done--the color photographs are simply beautiful! Too, the recipes along with the photographs make me believe that the recipes in it make some dishes "to die for." Desserts make up probably more than half of all of the recipes.

Here's the direct link to the pdf booklet.

Enjoy!
