Sorry, I meant that the price is Kobo isn't discounted. I'm wasn't going to risk it by paying full price and asking Kobo for credit, even if others have had (consistent?) success with it here.

Now the Kindle price is back up so it's irrelevant.

That's what I was wondering. I've used Kobo's price match multiple times without issues. However I make sure I keep a screen shot of the price since as you mention below:

Excellent novel. Time travel, but it's never explained, and not the point, so don't expect any SF/F tropes.

I read Cachalot a decade ago or so. I don't remember much, but I do remember enjoying it. It is the second in Foster's Humanx Commonwealth shared universe. But aside from a shared setting, there isn't continuity between the books.
