Not likely. They'd be bragging, and if they weren't stupid, they would have staged releases, giving us folders and access to all those Adobe-bound booksellers while they worked on the newer stuff.

I'm afraid I'm with Derek here. At this point I really don't expect Bookeen to ever release their announced new firmware anymore.

A pity, but we'll have to use what we have. It's what we paid for, so no use in complaining there. I consider my Cybook bug-free (at least for mobi ) and that's more than the Opus readers can say if I read the postings correctly...

p.s. K-Thom did you get my email?????

But they are selling the ePub Gen 3 in Germany so I think they have to release a bug fix firmware for these customers.

Finally. Management decided to give me a list of words I can not use. So I'm not going to use them.
They are the infamous "7" (I'm not going to repeat them, but leave that as an exercise for the reader).

I still believe that is a cop-out. And I'm going to risk my account by proving it to You.

According to management I can say.

You're right. I'd forgot about that one. My guess... They couldn't make a decent ePub release on time and they are still working on those problems, putting the upgrade on the older mobi gen3's to the back of the work list...

I do still consider my original purchase as worthwhile. I couldn't afford IREX, Sony was Japan only at the time, no Kindle and after years of ebookman and pda's I was ready to actually use e-ink instead of just reading about it. I also think NAEB made a good choice. There wasn't a lot available in the market at the time.

The bugs and problems were worthwhile considering the tradeoff of using a tiny pda screen. These days, there are a more stable choices (Sony, Kindle), and the prices are much lower. I don't think that the Bookeen was a bad choice then, but I think that new users should look carefully.

According to German law a Weltbild customer might have a good chance to demand full compensation if he would file a lawsuit. Bookeen had months to fix bugs in the Beta version and still isn't able to comply with a version which you could at least call a "release candidate".

Our French members at the Paris meeting got their Beta for the Gen3 for free. Weltbild customers actually paid for that ...

As far as I'm concerned I've given up hope for a firmware update. If it comes one/some/any day, that's fine, and I'll give both versions a try. If they prove to be stable I might even consider buying an Opus then. It's a nicely designed device.

But that's the name of the game: First an update, then 'll consider another device from Bookeen.

Once again, it NOT the same firmware. One is mobi, the other is ePub.

And if the firmware runs on gen3 as well as on the pous, it's quite usable. Sd card get a mess, but since i've taken it off, i had one or two crash, noting compared to what happened with the sd where i could hardly read half an hour without being interupted.

The French members at the Paris RendezVous didn't get any ePub version of the firmware

Finally some good news after a full month censoring all comments!

Dear users,

We are very sorry for the delay in 1.5 (Mobi) and 2.0 (Adobe) firmware's release.

We should be able to release it very soon. Indeed, nearly all verifications have been done.

Please, be sure that we are doing our very best to provide you with a satisfactory solution.

Best regards,

Bookeen Team

To add some information:

- that's from official Bookeen's blog, answer to today's question.
- it does say "Indeed, nearly all verifications have been done.". So, forgetting about all the rest of the text, it does imply that the firmware is done, testing is in progress and nearly finished.

So maybe we'll see this firmware within a month or two after all, and maybe it won't brick anyone's device after such thorough testing.
