Depends if you want your books in the AZW3 format or in KFX. If the former, then use the 4th gen Kindle (warning, the images will be pretty low-res, as the 4th Kindle has a low-res screen and the files would be optimized for that). If the latter, use the Oasis.

I believe that Kindle for PC uses whatever default web browser you have on your system to help perform the registration. Is there is something unusual about your browser? Could it be blocking certain websites?

Neither 1.17 nor 2.40 launch an external browser. They use their own built-in browser to display the login/registration window. Except 2.40 displays a blank window with no text or fields. 1.17 works correctly -- I re-registered it earlier this week.

I might be mistaken, but I recall others having reported fixing registration problems by changing the browser in the past.

After installing the KFX Input plugin, you can add a From KFX icon to a toolbar. This allows you to convert KFX to ePub without using calibre's conversion pipeline. Not as clean as KindleUnpack's KF8/azw3 to ePub but much cleaner than a calibre conversion. And sadly, at this time, only handles 1 file at a time.

I've installed the latest beta dedrm (10.0.9) and KFC Input (2.21.0) into Calibre. I've restarted after install. I'm also running the latest version of Calibre (7.26.0).
When I drag the KFX file off my Kindle Paperwhite straight into Calibre the process fails as the resulting file in Calibre is still .kfx-zip (not .kfx) Any ideas? Do you drag just the kfx file off the Kindle into Calibre (I notice there is a folder by the same name of the book). |

I'll come back and edit this and clean it up once I'm able to grab my kindle and be a bit more specific about file structure. Note, I only have a K3 w/keyboard which is all I have been able to test this on. I'm not too sure about people who have newer devices. |

Most of the newer Kindles use KFX, not AZW3. You need newer deDRM and an additional plugin for KFX. And the file structure is different too.

I've got a K3 and a Paperwhite. So far I've yet to run into a purchase that I can't remove DRM from by pulling files from both devices (or using K4PC 2.4.0) and using the latest DeDRM plugin (from the automatic release repository). As well as the KFX Input plugin if necessary. I don't worry much about DRM these days, but I'm still finding it unlikely that all 3 currently working methods are going to disappear anytime soon. And even if they do, a lack of working methods will typically spur even more interest in finding new and/or alternative solutions.
