Updated source and installed the updated copies.
Ran my fanfic chain on a newly-downloaded story and didn't notice the pause between events (though there was one at the beginning, which I assume was it doing that hibernation thing mentioned earlier). The last modified updated as expected. I'm not sure if this was also an issue in the last version, but I also test with my "mark as read" chain, which only affects columns that LM is set to ignore. There seemed to be a slight pause between those now. This might be something to investigate. Will continue to use it. If I run into any issues I'll mention them. EDIT: Actually, the "mark as read" thing seems to be due to "remove from Reading List" being one of the options; RL with a series column set is a little slow. If I run the chain on a book not on a list (I disabled the prompt so the plugin just ignores those) it's faster. Last edited by ownedbycats; 09-16-2021 at 04:20 AM. |

With these changes, the Last Modified will stay dormant (only listening to events) during the lifetime of the chain. When the chain finishes, it will do only one update per date field. Note that this means that books affected will be updated with the same timestamp (which equals the time the Last Modified hibernation period ended.) |

The option to add a template is accessible before the user selects a column. This results in this occasionally happening to me:
1. Create a chain and add a single-field action to it. Open the Settings dialog. 2. Click the Add Template button. Put something in there. 3. Edit the template window and then select a column. Note that it changes to Ask at Runtime. (Or, in my case, fail to notice.) 4. Click the OK button. (This is usually where I go test my chain and find out I've set it up wrong.) 5. Re-open the Settings dialog and check the template editor. It's now empty. (And with luck, the template is no longer saved in the tester!) While a relatively minor issue, greying out the Add Template if there's no column selected would prevent it entirely. Thanks ![]() Last edited by ownedbycats; 09-22-2021 at 01:58 AM. |

Question: I'd like to try to Switch VL view action, but:
a) I have two VLs (cleanup and loans) without a corresponding view; b) I have a books-on-device view without a corresponding VL (it does switch to all books though). Will there be any issues? EDIT: I tried it out and found I can assign the views to the specific VLs themselves. This'll work. ![]() Slight feedback: I noticed the action causes some difficulty with dragging and dropping the tabs around. Is there any way to mitigate this? Also, it caused some weird visual glitching when I try changing via the View Manager dropdown. "Crap, all my VLs are getting deleted! Oh. They're back now. Never mind." I also tried changing the view from the view manager dropdown menu with no problems. Edit: Moving the tabs around does will switch the tab order and consequently trigger the event. It is only noticeable for me I move a tab multiple places. Nothing can be done regarding this. Last edited by capink; 09-24-2021 at 09:03 AM. |

In my case, when I ran switch view from the dropdown menu, it rapidly switched between all my views while causing the VL tabs to disappear. Then they all came back and it went to the selected view. It was a little alarming to see.
If you want, I can see if I can replicate it in a test library in a portable Calibre with only the two needed plugins. Last edited by ownedbycats; 09-24-2021 at 10:44 AM. |

I'm a complete nube in calibre template language.
I'm trying to take the output of the plugin Pagecount which is the number of words in a book and dividing that by 320 which is my words per minute reading rate and output the total number of minutes to read the book into my custom integer col "#minutes" I don't know how to assign the product of divide(vals, 320); to my custom column #minutes. program: col = '#pagecount'; vals = from_selection(col); '#minutes' = divide(vals, 320); But I get this result EXCEPTION: Formatter: Expected end of program, found '=' near '#minutes' on line 4 |

For future reference, this thread might be a better place to put template questions:

Sorry, I tried to delete it and move but it'll only let me edit. I'll repost it in the correct thread.

Don't worry. If you need a post deleted you can hit the little ! button next to Karma and ask a mod to do it.

I was able to replicate the weird visual glitching in a test library in a portable Calibre with only AC and VM.
Attached is my chain and the metadata.db of the library. Assuming it's not an issue specific to my Windows environment, using View Manager's toolbar button to change views or using Re-Apply Current View should result in it switching between all available views and the tabs disappearing then reappearing. It's more of an annoyance than anything serious - though considering I use re-apply sometimes to reset after changing sorts or something it does crop up a bit. Thanks. ![]() Last edited by ownedbycats; 09-24-2021 at 06:20 PM. |
