My name is Henrique and I am from the Netherlands.

I own a Kobo Clara HD that started freezing frequently. I read that performing a factory reset might solve the issue, but unfortunately the device ended up stuck in a boot loop and no longer starts properly.

I understand that the internal SD card can be replaced with a new one, but I would need the correct firmware/image file for the Kobo Clara HD in order to restore it.

While searching online, I found several references to this community and learned that many Kobo users here have experience with recovering devices in situations like mine. Therefore, I would like to ask if someone could advise me on how to obtain the correct firmware/image for my Kobo Clara HD.

I forgot to say. I'm not sure the exact reason mine is bad, but it was left in the car for a couple months after being handled by a child. It got hot some days.

When I brought it back in I was sad to see it booted up and was somehow factory reset. No problem, I have backups on my computer!

I went to go and update and put my books back on it. It froze once while trying to update so I restarted it just fine, but the second time it froze its now on a black screen after trying to restart again. I think I bricked it by resetting during a firmware update.

So I copied the files into backup folder on my PC and right clicked the drive and formatted as FAT32 in windows. I think this is only wiping the main partition and not the boot stuff.

TLDR; I might need a full img to put on the SD card.

Before re-imaging it, you may want to try a manual factory reset.

1. Connect your Glo to a power source and charge it for at least 1 hour.
2. If possible, turn off your eReader. Hold the power button to the right for at least 30 seconds if you don't see the Powered Off screen
3. Press and hold the light button.
4. While holding the light button, slide the power button to the right several times to turn on your eReader.
5. Continue holding the light button and wait until the power light blinks rapidly.
6. Let go of the light button.
7. You should see a Restoring message on the screen.

You might want to download later firmware versions for the Glo since the factory reset should reset to v2.5.0 which is a bit of an antique. At this time, I would suggest 2.10.0 => 3.11.0 => 3.19.5761 => 4.7.10413 => 4.33.19608 since several issues have been reported with jumping straight to the 4.xx family from 2.5.0. You can find these version by clicking on the Other Versions button at the end of the Kobo Glo line on Patrick Gaskin's Kobo Firmware Downloads page.

For info: I tried the manual factory reset a few times but can't get past the initial setup. WiFi setup doesn't work (assuming because it's an unsupported model). Computer set up looks like it works, but it must Kobo Desktop automatically downloads an incompatible update which bricks the device and puts me back to where I was.

I'll give the reimage a go.

Hello. Sorry to be a pain but I need to go back from Kobo to Tolino firmware on my Tolino Shine 2 as some functions weren’t working, including the backlight. I tried putting my original Micro Sd card back in but it won’t boot- have you got a copy of the Tolino Shine 2 firmware image so I can flash another card. Many thanks and sorry to bother you.
