I'm not personally a huge fan of Stieg Larsson's Lisbeth Salander books, later continued by David Lagercrantz, but lots of folks are. And today's Big Deal at Kindle UK is the first six books in the series for £0.99 each.

The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco is $2.99 at Amazon, B&N and Kobo US.

Quote:
The beloved internationally bestselling historical mystery about a brilliant monk called upon to solve a series of baffling murders in a fourteenth-century Italian abbey

Italy, 1347. While Brother William of Baskerville is investigating accusations of heresy at a wealthy abbey, his inquiries are disrupted by a series of bizarre deaths. Turning his practiced detective skills to finding the killer, he relies on logic (Aristotle), theology (Thomas Aquinas), empirical insights (Roger Bacon), and his own wry humor and ferocious curiosity. With the aid of his young apprentice, William scours the abbey, from its stables to the labyrinthine library, piecing together evidence, and deciphering cryptic symbols and coded manuscripts to uncover the truth about this place where "the most interesting things happen at night."

Triumph of the Spider Monkey by Joyce Carol Oates is 0.99 at Amazon, B&N and Kobo US. This is a Hard Case Crime book with their usual, lovely throwback cover art.

Quote:
Abandoned as a baby in a bus station locker—shuttled from one abusive foster home and detention center to another—Bobbie Gotteson grew up angry, hurting, damaged. His hunger to succeed as a musician brought him across the country to Hollywood, but along with it came his seething rage, his paranoid delusions, and his capacity for acts of shocking violence.

Unavailable for 40 years, The Triumph of the Spider Monkey is an eloquent, terrifying, heartbreaking exploration of madness by one of the most acclaimed authors of the past century. This definitive edition for the first time pairs the original novel with a never-before-collected companion novella by Joyce Carol Oates—unseen since its sole publication in a literary journal nearly half a century ago—which examines the impact of Gotteson’s killing spree on a woman who survived it, as seen through the eyes of the troubled young man hired by a private detective to surveil her...

A Detective at Death's Door is the fifth in HRF Keating's lesser-known DCI Harriet Martens series. It's free right now at Kindle US and UK. This series had been e-published by Endeavour Press, who went out of business quite a while ago, and went free occasionally as part of their marketing strategy. Now it appears that Lume books has the rights, so these are different editions, with different covers. And Lume books also tend to go free from time to time. But if you don't want multiple editions cluttering up your library, check before you buy...

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BLZ86GDW
Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0BLZ86GDW

Spoiler:
Quote:
In her most personal case yet, Harriet Martens finds herself in grave danger from a deft and cunning poisoner.

Relaxing with her husband by the pool one hot August Bank Holiday, Harriet doesn't expect the refreshing glass at her side to conceal a deadly drug. When she awakes from a doze, she is no longer by the water, but in a hospital bed recovering from a near-fatal dose of aconitine.

Joffe's Free Friday book this week is He Is Watching You, which is the first in the Maddie Ives series by Charlie Gallagher.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KKK5N7W
Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07KKK5N7W

Spoiler:
Quote:
A young woman’s body is left in a metal container in a remote location. The killer is careful to position her under a camera that links to his smartphone. He likes to look back at his work.

HE IS WATCHING HER.

BUT SHE ISN’T DEAD.

So he will return to finish the job. He can barely contain his excitement at the thought of getting to do it all over again. But he must be careful. He cannot rush. Rushing makes you careless.

Detective Maddie Ives is new to the area. She is handed a missing person report: a young woman with a drink problem who’s been reported missing fifteen times. It looks like a waste of time. But DS Ives has a bad feeling about the woman’s disappearance.

DI Harry Blaker is called to a hit and run of an elderly man left to die on a quiet country road. There is no motive and it looks like a tragic accident. But he’s been working Major Crime long enough to know that something isn’t quite right.

The two officers find their investigations intertwine and they will need to work together.

BUT THEY MUST WORK FAST. TIME IS RUNNING OUT FOR THE WOMAN IN THE CONTAINER.

And the killer has already identified his next target.

HE IS WATCHING YOU: The new race against time thriller from Charlie Gallagher.

One Man and His Bomb is the sixth Harriet Martens book by HRF Keating. Like its predecessor a few comments up, it's free right now at Kindle US and UK...

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BPHYYKQ5
Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0BPHYYKQ5

Spoiler:
Quote:
In the sixth of HRF Keating’s Harriet Martens novels, Harriet must cope with the harshest of losses.

When Harriet learns of her son’s death in a terrorist incident, her world falls apart. With another son gravely injured and her mind struggling to cope, Harriet must nonetheless focus on her police work.

With the authorities on full anti-terror alert, Harriet must investigate the theft of a herbicide specimen that could cause more destruction and pain than any single bomb. She must work quietly and efficiently, all the while fending off the grief that threatens to overwhelm her, and unceasing fears for her surviving son.

Feeling alone, in a world where no one is quite what they seem, Harriet struggles to retain her title of the ‘Hard Detective’. One Man and His Bomb is a novel for the post-9/11 world, blending police procedural with psychological insight. It can be read as part of the series or as a stand-alone work.

A Murder Unmentioned is the sixth in Sulari Gentill's Rowland Sinclair series. It's $1.99 right now in the US, and discountable at Kobo US...

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07N1RTKKQ
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/a-murder-unmentioned-5

Spoiler:
Quote:
A fascinating historical mystery by Sulari Gentill, author of #1 LibraryReads pick The Woman in the Library

Shortlisted for the Davitt Award for Best Adult Novel for 2015

Shortlisted for the Ned Kelly Award for Best Crime Novel 2015

Ever since the death of their wealthy, land-owning father a decade prior, Rowland Sinclair and his elder brother, Wil, have avoided any discussion of the event ever since—keeping secret that Sinclair senior was murdered... And the possible involvement of the teenage Rowly and his brother's intervention.

But now the finger of blame is pointing squarely at Rowly, the Sinclair black sheep, a man careless of what society and the authorities think of him. So he and the trio of artist friends who live in his Sydney suburban mansion, and generally have his back, avail themselves of a racing green Gypsy Moth plane (Rowland is a pioneer in air travel) and a yellow Mercedes sports car (another frightening mode of transport) to arrive in New South Wales' Southern Tablelands, bent on clearing Rowly's name.

With cameo appearances from historical figures—Bob Menzies in the Sinclair kitchen, Edna Walling in the garden, and Kate Leigh grinning lasciviously at Rowly in a jailhouse crowd—and a real sense of fun contrasting with the quite genuine tension, this is historical crime for those in the know and those who can barely remember what happened last weekend, a story of family secrets and fraternal loyalty.

A terrific addition to the critically acclaimed Rowland Sinclair WWII Mysteries and sure to appeal to Rhys Bowen, Kerry Greenwood, and Jacqueline Winspear, this historical novel features a bohemian amateur sleuth, a wry sense of humor, and a crime that will baffle even the most ardent of puzzle lovers.
