Don't put yourself in danger for a few pics; although we would love to see them.

Well,so much for my plan to stay in during this winter storm. My mom called this morning and said she was out of cough medicine. She's just getting over bronchitis and is still coughing terribly. I called the local drugstore to see if they were open and they said yes, so I walked there, about a mile (better than trying to drive on these scary roads) and got it, then walked it back to mom's house, another half mile or so. This first pic shows why it was so hard walking -- my boots broke through the crust with every step, so I feel like I burned about a million calories getting there, up and down the hills. It was scarier heading home, though, because the freezing drizzle that got me so wet was turning the streets and sidewalks into a skating rink. The last block I had to chop down with my heels hard to get any traction at all. I saw a few cars out, but they were doing some graceful circles in the road. Unintentionally, of course. I can't believe how much icier it is now than it was just a couple of hours ago. Anyway, medicine is delivered, I'm home with my kitties, my snuggie, a bowl of chili and rice, and my kindle.

OMG! They are calling it an inland tsunami! That is so scary, and how are you supposed to prepare for it? Is there high ground somewhere or is the whole area low?

We are fine here. Close to the sea so unless there is a tidal surge we should be OK. We are less than 100m from a flooded river, but I think the tide will control the water we are getting. It is just raining non-stop and everything is getting mouldy!

Where are you nohmi2?

In Robina, near the main shopping centre.

My hubby is watching the news now, and for once is very, very quiet.

So far we have managed to get $30million in donations. I will say that Aussies have hearts of gold.

Cheers

Betty, you take care! You're a good samaritan to go through that icy weather, but just reading about it is scary.is it expected to last long, your snow?

I find it so odd... I Denmark you can buy buy raincoats and gumboots everywhere, but here in Australia, where it rains so fast and hard, all you can buy are umbrellas. Maybe I'm supposed to walk out to my birds in bare feet...
I got a pair of gumboots in KMart about 10 years ago and I hang on to them like they were gold-plated! What about farm supply shops or hardware stores? Builders often wear them when they are working with concrete so they must be out there. Otherwise just buy some of those really cheap canvas sneakers (a whole $5 at my local shop!) and "sacrifice" them - those little birdies will thank you!

Well ... after days of warning ... we finally had some very light flurries. That dome of dry air has been sliding the nasty stuff around us all day. Still waiting to see what icy horrors arrive tonight.

The governor has declared a state of emergency for the entire state of NC.
