I understand that, but the gap on my device causes light leaking from the notification LED at the top right whenever I'm turning my KA1 on or off. It's not extremely noticeable, but it makes the device look cheap.

It seems that water can definitely go through the gaps and reach the internals, at least in my case. This technically shouldn't be an issue because the internals are supposedly protected from liquids by a hydrophobic nanocoating. Last edited by JoOrwick; 09-22-2016 at 01:40 PM. |

Why don't you ask for a replacement? It will bother you every time you look at it for the next few years if you don't exchange it. Cheap looking ain't good.

Because the screen is almost perfect. With a replacement, I risk uneven frontlighting, dust under the screen etc.
Besides, I'd have to send it back to Netherlands and pay the shipping costs (~20-30 euros in total). Then I'd have to wait 2+ weeks to get a replacement which may or may not be better. It's just not worth the hassle. As I said earlier, it's not a big deal. It's just a very small dot of light inside the gap. I'm just glad it's not there during regular usage. ETA: Hmmm...the footnote reference numbers in the books where popup footnotes are not working all share the same (somewhat unusual) property of NOT being surrounded by tags. Instead, they use a <span> that includes [vertical-align: super]. Could that be contributing to the problem, perhaps? I'll do more checking. Last edited by icallaci; 09-23-2016 at 10:49 AM. I'm using an iPad Mini cover. Ripped out the plastic shell (doesn't fit the ONE) and used double sided removable mounting squares. I easily get to the power button through the opening in the cover. The three rubber strips protect the screen, though the purpose for the iPad is adjustable stand positions.

Thank you. I was initially using a sleeve because I prefer using the device naked (Sshhh!). But I dropped it once on a hard floor. Not taking anymore chances. Was really surprised there was no damage whatsoever, cosmetically or internally. I shall not tempt the eReader gods again.

For those following this thread who are lamenting the passing of their pop-up footnotes on sideloaded kepubs, I've created a new thread in the Kobo Developer's sub-forum detailing a step-by-step method that has (so far) worked for me.

Has anyone else experienced this...?
When I plug my KA1 in to charge it, the screen that says 'Computer Detected' and asking me to select 'Connect' or 'Cancel' pops up. I know this happens when connecting via USB to a computer but why am I getting this when connecting to a plain old charger plug with the USB cable that came with the unit??? |

There is a wide range of USB chargers, cables and standards. Some combinations provide a signal that a host is attached; some others indicate that they are only chargers.

I did get that once with an old charger. When I changed chargers it didn't happen.
