Well, just read the first and enjoyed it very much. I'll have look out for the Chris Norgren series as well.

Well, it appears that Mary Daheim has hit the "Z" limit sooner than Sue Grafton, with The Alpine Zen in her also alphabetical Alpine Advocate series. And The Alpine Zen has recently dropped to $4.99, a reasonable price IMO for a most-recent-in-series title.

Amazon US: https://www.amazon.com/Alpine-Zen-Em.../dp/B00N6PEU8O
Kobo US: https://store.kobobooks.com/en-us/ebook/the-alpine-zen

Spoiler:
Quote:
The picturesque town of Alpine in the foothills of Washington state’s Cascade Mountains—home to Emma Lord and her weekly newspaper The Alpine Advocate—has long charmed and enthralled mystery lovers. Now, with The Alpine Zen, Mary Daheim has at last reached the anticipated letter of Z. Her legion of avid armchair sleuths will relish this deliciously gripping novel.

As an early summer heat wave beats down on Alpine, Emma and her staff are treading very lightly. For unfathomable reasons, the paper’s House & Home editor, Vida Runkel, is in a major snit, refusing to speak to her colleagues, or even her boss. So when a peculiar young woman walks in claiming her parents have been murdered, and that she’s in mortal danger, too, it fits right in with the rest of the craziness. Then, to the utter bafflement of her colleagues, Vida vanishes without a word to anyone. And just when Emma and her husband, Sheriff Milo Dodge, start to unsnarl these tangles, a male body, dead too long to identify, surfaces at the town dump—making what seemed merely weird feel downright sinister. Has the hot weather driven everyone nuts, or are cold-blooded forces committing deadly misdeeds?

The Alpine Zen tingles with all the mystery and allure that only Mary Daheim’s brand of small-town life can provide. Gossip, love affairs, feuding, and plenty of dirty secrets make for an intriguing adventure every Alpine fan will want to read all about.

And, BTW, for those worried about the future of the series, Daheim's website indicates:

Quote:
But the solution wasn't very hard. It was just a matter of starting the alphabet anew. The working title for the next book is Alpha Alpine. That could change before the book is finished, of course.

This is disturbing news. I've been reading Sue Grafton since she came out with her first book in her alphabet series. At one point, I even had a number of Uncorrected Galleys, but I sold those, along with her first 5 books for a nice hefty sum.

I've never read anything by Mary Daheim. Are they any good?

I'm sure that Sue Grafton will also figure it out...whether she goes to numbers, or to double letters (AA is for Aardvark strikes me as an excellent title ), or just starting over again at the beginning of the alphabet, as Mary Daheim plans to do...

Mary Daheim has two series, the alphabetical "Alpine XXX" and another series set in a bed-and-breakfast. Both are what I would call cozy, although the B&B one is a bit cozier than the Alpine series, IMO. I seem to remember in a previous post you indicated a taste towards more hard-boiled...neither of these series is that.

Personally, I've read the first 10 or 12 or so in each series, but gradually dropped them as my tastes seem to have evolved more towards historicals, police procedurals, and mysteries set in places/cultures that interest me. Still, both series run to many many titles, still with major publishers, so something is working right with them. (And the fact that both series are still with major publishers, and thus have what are IMO ridiculous prices for backlist titles has also contributed towards my drift away...)

Hope this helps...

Dead or Alive is the 12th, and for now the last, title in Michael McGarrity's Kevin Kerney series. (Since its publication, per SYKM, he seems to have written a three-book fictional history of the Kerney family...perhaps having finished that, he'll get back to the mystery series, which I would applaud...)

Dead or Alive has recently dropped to $3.99 - not a huge drop or awesome price, but it is the most recent title in the series (even if pub in 2008), and I like the series, and didn't have this title, so I was happy to see it.

Amazon US: https://www.amazon.com/Dead-Alive-Ke.../dp/B001BAGW0K
Kobo US: https://store.kobobooks.com/en-us/eb...n-kerney-novel

Spoiler:
Quote:
“A taut and tidy thriller”(San Diego Union-Tribune) focusing on a manhunt for a deranged killer—from the nationally bestselling author who “gets better and better.”(Tony Hillerman )

Living in London while his wife serves as a military attaché at the American Embassy, recently retired Santa Fe police chief Kevin Kerney gets an early morning phone call that changes everything and sends him hurrying home to his New Mexico ranch. Riley Burke, his partner in a horse-training enterprise, has been mowed down on Kerney’s doorstep by an escaped prisoner cutting a murderous swath through New Mexico.

As the killings mount, Kerney teams up with his half-Apache son, Lieutenant Clayton Istee of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department, to hunt for a psychotic murderer with a growing appetite for blood—who has no intention of being taken alive.

Dragon's Lair is the third in Sharon Kay Penman's excellent (IMO) and too short four-book Justin de Quincy historical mystery series.

It has dropped to $4.99, which is about the limit at which I would post a "deal". But, since I like the series so much, and since (per eReaderIQ) this is the lowest it has been, I'm going ahead and posting it.

Amazon US: https://www.amazon.com/Dragons-Lair-.../dp/B002VXTB7M
Kobo US: https://store.kobobooks.com/en-us/ebook/dragon-s-lair-2

Spoiler:
Quote:
The long-awaited third novel in Sharon Kay Penman's much-loved medieval mystery series.

July 1193: Richard Lionheart, eldest and most favored son of Dowager Queen Eleanor of Aquitane, languishes in an Austrian dungeon, held for ransom by the Holy Roman Emperor. Lusting after the crown in England, his brother John plots with his country's bitterest foe, King Philippe of France, to see to it Richard never leaves Austria alive. But the Queen has already begun to meet the ransom demands, and it is only a matter of time before the Austrians turn over their royal prisoner. And then one of the ransom payments vanishes in the fastnesses of Wales, itself wracked by rebellion and intrigue. Into this maelstrom, Eleanor sends her trusted man, Justin de Quincy-and murder soon follows.

First introduced in The Queen's Man-an Edgar nominee for best first mystery-Justin de Quincy returns in what may well be Penman's strongest mystery to date.
