Duokan lite ?

New software ? Duokan-lite for Kindle 3.

See page in Chinese here:
http://www.duokan.com/forum/thread-14169-1-1.html

Core features:
1: System performance: faster, more stable, more power
2: using the experience: new ue, ui design more compact layout more reasonable operation
3: Product Features: Based on the entire network of book search results are more reasonable and more abundant resources,

The first edition will only supports txt format, other formats will be added during updates which btw. seem to be done somewhat different.

Looks like it will be a sort of closed-beta, which you have to sign up for ? Is that correct ?

( hope to receive some more/better info regarding this )

I downloaded some ebooks in epub format from University of Adelaide (http://ebooks.adelaide.edu.au/) and from Gutenberg Project but Duokan always hangs up and freezes while opening these ebook. Has anyone else faced this issue?

Duokan has no problem handling epub books from Feedbooks, though.

Does anyone have clue as to why is this so?

The pdf text rendering on Duokan pales before that of original Kindle fw. I recently opened an Arabic script based language file in which the diacritics were in color. In Kindle these were rendered in a shade of gray while the same in duokan appear black. Could this explain why rendering in duokan is sloppy because it somehow does not seem to use shades of gray in rendering pdf text which ultimately accounts for crisp rendering of same text in original Kindle fw? I hope this issue is addressed by duokan developers which would then make duokan preferred os/fw for handling pdf in all respects.

First, you are probably aware of how you can change the black/darkness in the display So in general, you may do some personal adjustments.

I think in general, most would consider the Kindle to be for use with black/white text as in books or Newspapers, and not addressing color. Pictures in newspapers, uses a specialized printing technique for images to appear in shades, which has nothing to do with real color changes.

Is it important ?

Does color hold some specific meaning/usage when it comes to diacritics ?

No, I don't have a specific clue on this, but occasionally there has been software changes in some formats for some release.

However, due to the fact that there are some trouble with character-code sets, it would be helpful if you supplied links to some sample from Feedbooks, Gutenberg, Adelaide in which these problems occur.

Then perhaps we may pin it down a bit better.

Here's a question. Outside of the webkit (web browsing) would duokan be equal to the same pdf performance as a K3? If not what does the K3 offer?

All the epub format books that I downloaded from Adelaide University had issue with duokan. Here is the link to ebooks@Adelaide website.

I have also attached herewith a sample file (Confessions of St. Augustine) from this website.
