Lady of Bones is the 24th and next-to-most-recent in the Sarah Booth Delaney series by Carolyn Haines - at least until a new one comes out in May. It has dropped to $2.99 in the US. Books in this series go on sale super-rarely in the US and so this is a grab-it-NOW-if-you-want-it moment. (I bought it before doing this post, which I almost never do...)

Carolyn Haines's Lady of Bones is the next novel in the series that Kirkus Reviews characterizes as “Stephanie Plum meets the Ya-Ya Sisterhood” featuring sassy Southern private investigator Sarah Booth Delaney.

It’s Halloween season in Mississippi as Sarah Booth and the gang gather to decorate and gush over Tinkie’s new baby, Maylin. Sarah Booth is just about to refresh the cocktails when she hears a knock on the door and opens it to find a woman named Frankie, distraught at the disappearance of her daughter Christa, a young journalist. Christa had been investigating the disappearance of young women in New Orleans over a five-year period—one every year around Halloween. I've been waiting for Ovidia Yu's latest title in her SuLin series, set in Occupied Singapore, to go on sale, and now it has. The Mimosa Tree Mystery has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US, which is a nice price for a recently published book. Although certainly not hard-boiled or noir, this series is less cozy than Yu's earlier Aunty Lee series. I've liked both series a lot. And now, having snagged the new one, I'm looking forward to some good reading sometime soon!

I haven't read this historical mystery author (William Ryan), but the series looks interesting. And, per SYKM, three of the four books in the series have been finalists for various Dagger awards from the British Crime Writers Association - including the first one, The Holy Thief, which recently dropped to £0.99 at Kindle UK. Be careful, though, because The Holy Thief was on sale a while back, in a different version, from Pan Books, and doesn't show up as previously purchased on the web page for this newer e-edition.

It is a headline‑making story: the discovery of a previously unknown Rembrandt. René Vachey, the iconoclastic art dealer who claims to have uncovered it, wants to make a gift of it to the Seattle Art Museum, but curator Chris Norgren is wary. Vachey is notorious in art circles for perpetrating scandalous shams; not for profit but for the sheer fun of embarrassing the elite and snobbish “experts” of the art establishment. And thanks to the web of strings attached to Vachey’s donation (e.g., no scientific testing permitted), even Rembrandt expert Chris is uncertain as to whether or not the painting is authentic.

Open Road books and omnibuses go on sale pretty often in the US, often enough that I rarely post.
