I don't know if GoodReads or LibraryThing will accept thosse, but you can generate CSV as a catalog format. See the conversion submenu.

Viktor,

On the Goodreads site you can download a sample CSV file. Do so, and look at it to see what the supported column headings are. You can read it as a text file but I recommend opening it in a spreadsheet program for ease of use. (Excel, OpenOffice Calc, etc.)

Note: You don't have to use all of the columns in the sample - it just shows all of the ones it supports for import. You can use as few as Author and Title.

Now, use calibre to generate a CSV catalog, selecting the calibre columns you wish you use. Open the CSV catalog file, look at the header row, and see what column headings you will need to change to match the sample you downloaded from Goodreads. For example, the calibre "Authors" column will need to be changed to match. Save the changes you make as a new file if you want to keep the original.

Once you do that, you can go to Goodreads and import the books from that file. It won't be a perfect process, it may miss a few or list the wrong book, so I recommend going through your shelves after the import to check for any books that look like they don't belong. But even though you may have to fix a few, it is still faster than listing them all manually.

Good luck, and let us know if you run into problems.

Christa

Still, it would be nice to be able to queue books up for adding to the reader... ah well, I'm sure it won't be long before Kovid makes Calibre read books for us. =]

Edit: Oops, I see it's on the todo list.
Have a look at the plugin created by Kiwidude here:

This is the calibre forum. Calibre is a ebook management suite not a epub creation / publishing suite. You might want to explore the ePub forum for advice with this issue.

OK, total MOBI ebook 1465 - the same i calculated by file manager and shown by Calibre Formats left column menu
formats:"=MOBI" & isbn:true
762 ebooks
formats:"=MOBI" & isbn:
782 ebooks ! not 762 as expected
formats:"=MOBI" & not isbn:true
20 ebooks ! ( i expected 703 = 1465-762 or 683 = 1465-782)

to add ISBN into the file and to Calibre

Hi Chaley, hi all

i have - let say - a 1000 mobi/epub/lit files which have not ISBN and have not Calibre ISBN too.

can i use some command line exe (like ebook-meta)

1) check ebook files
2) if have not isbn - download metadata (from isbndb or...)
3) rewrite ebook file
4) add isbn to Calibre metadata

or may be even more
1) check both - Calibre metadata and ebook file
... continue as above

thank you

Lightbulb Opinions wanted on adding .imp format to calibre's options

Of those who have (any) readers using the .imp format please help make it clear to those working on the Calbre software how many are interested in avoiding the cumbersome process I described below by having the .imp format added to the list of those Calibre will convert to.

I already had a Library Program, which isn't offered any longer, to use with my eBookwise, but am finding it quite annoying to use in conjuction with Calibre.

I just converted 5 .PDF's to .RB, then saved them to the other program's import folder, finding in the process that I had to extract each bookfile individually from 2 layers of folders.

Next I'll be opening the other program to convert the .RB's to .IMP's, then importing that format to calibre, and finally merging each with the original entry. Even doing this for 1 book is annoying.

Am putting in an enhancement ticket, but additional opinions on this should be of value in making their decision on the matter.

3 of my 5 PDF to rb produced single blank pages and the other 2 didn't convert to imp at all, because the rb's were no good to begin with - they don't open in Calibre.

I therefore converted from PDF to ePUb, making sure that those open, and converted the ePub to rb which are again unreadable - 4 of 5 took less than a minute, and the last is up to 47% at 23 minutes and counting!

Which means you either have to do it yourself, or find someone else to do it, I doubt there are many people interested in working on imp, but if you can find one, or want to do it yourself ....

Just have to wait and see on that, as I'm not one of the 2 programmers in the family - who work for Banks.
