Image for N289 please?
Dear exalted experts,

Thank you for your continuing public service. I am but the latest victim, my Kobo N289 having been bricked by an automatic update of some sort. Could you please send me an SD card image to try to reboot the device?

Also, I'm kinda new at this. So I just have to copy the image onto a blank SD card and insert it into the device, right?

Need SD Card Image for Kobo glo
Hello All,

My Kobo Glo wont power on. The battery is fully charged. The SD Card is not readable. Now I need an image for the Kobo Glo so I can dump into a new Card. Can someone kindly send me an image.

If the device isn't powering on, then a new image won't help. And, if the device won't power on, there is absolutely no way to if the battery is charged. So, is the power LED coming on when you try to turn it on?

Thanks to davidfor and fly320's help my Kobo is as good as new!

The reset is to 1.9.11. This is perhaps the last stable version, offering all of the newer features and none of the crashes. I will avoid updating like the plague from now on!

Thanks David for the quick reply. This is the story so far..

The Kobo was out of charge and inspite of charging for 12 hrs, the device was not powering on. When I slide the power button the blue led lights up for few seconds and goes off. The screen does not respond.


Since I hadnt charged the kobo for a week, I thought the battery would have totally drained off. I used some information from a forum and removed the back cover and charged the battery by connecting it to a 9v battery. I later checked the voltage to find that the battery was totally charged.


But the device was still showing the same blue led.

I removed the SD card and inserted it into my laptop to find that it was unreadable. It was not even detected. Hence I thought the reason might be a damaged card and bought a new one to flash the image.

The blue LED flashing is good because it at least means something is happening. If it flashes a few times and goes off, mostly that means the battery level is to low and needs to be charged. From memory, if it can't read the internal SD card, the blue LED will flash like this as well.

How is it not readable? If you are using a Windows machine, it cannot handle the partitions on the card. In this case, look in Drive Manager (or whatever it is called). That should show the card and the partitions on it. Two will be shown as unknown or not formatted, the other will be FAT32. If the card or the partitions aren't shown, then that's a problem.

If it is a MAC or Linux machine, then not being able to mount the card or partition does show a problem.

If the card is failing, you can use a new card. I can send you an image to restore and try. And if you want, you can put a larger card in and expand the books partition.

Yes, I am using a Linux Machine and the disk doesnt show up at all.

Yes can you kindly send me an image to restore(how is it different from the previous image you gave me). I could give it a try.

OK, that says there is a problem with the card. Any errors in the logs to suggest anything?

Yes thank you. But I am unable to complete the download of the file. I have a slow internet connection (approx 4 hrs for a 600MB file). The download terminated abruptly twice after 400MB & 100MB. I am using Firefox. I used the default download manager in firefox and down-the-mall (multi-session download manager). Both failed.

Is it possible to get a direct download link. Sorry to trouble you..

Do other cards work? The search results for this all seem to suggest making sure the machine is configured properly. But, we are way out of my area, so I'm probably not much help.

Ouch. Sorry, I don't have a better place to put it. But, I'll see what I can find over the weekend. Or, would splitting it into 100MB chunks be OK?

Finally My Kobo Glo is up and running. I somehow managed to get the SD card to work. I immediately created an image of the card and then dumped it to the new card. I inserted the new card and now it works fine. Besides it quite responsive than earlier. Guess the card might have been the problem from the time the kobo was acting funny.

Thanks a lot for your help and I guess now I dont need the image anymore.
