A Couple of . . . uh . . . Unusual Cookbooks, Free at Amazon
This posting books thingie is a hobby of mine, not a paying job, so, no, I did not feel guilty that I did not check to see if these were available elsewhere for free.
How to Make Roti. By Michael De Bois. You can laugh, but it's rated 5 stars from 6 reviews at the present moment. Digital list price $2.99; Kindle price now $0.00. http://www.amazon.com/How-make-Roti-...w+to+make+Roti. If you are like me, you most likely have searched online for Roti recipes [actually, I never had heard of roti until now, G] but usually end up on blog posts which don’t really help much. In this short book you will learn how to make the most popular forms of roti. What is roti, in case you aren’t exactly sure? Roti or Kolcha is generally a South Asian bread made from stoneground wholemeal flour, traditionally known as atta flour, that originated and is consumed in India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. Its also plays a huge role in Caribbean cuisines. In this book I explain how to make the most popular forms of Roti; Dhalpuri, Buss up Shut and Sada. At Home Wagashi [Booklet]. By Diane Hatsugai. Rated 4 stars from 6 reviews at the present moment. Digital list price $0.99; Kindle price now $0.00. http://www.amazon.com/Home-Wagashi-B...t+Home+Wagashi. I'm guessing this is . . . Japanese food? Just an educated guess. A simple collection of beginner's wagashi recipes such as Daifuku, Dorayaki, and Mochi. |

Cheap Kindle Make-Ahead Freezer Cookbook
Something that I've wondered for a while: why can't a person make the recipes from freezer meal cookbooks and just eat them then, instead of freezing them first?
I like to post only books that are free because I'm cheap . . . er . . . I mean I'm frugal. However, this looks like a good one, so I'm making an exception. Don't Panic--More Dinner's in the Freezer: A Second Helping of Tasty Meals You Can Make Ahead. By Susie Martinez, Vanda Howell, Bonnie Garcia. Rated 4 1/2 stars from 90 reviews. Print list price $14.99; Digital list price $14.99; Kindle price now $1.99. http://www.amazon.com/Dont-Panic--Mo...Can+Make+Ahead. Hectic lifestyles make traditional cooking methods nearly obsolete in many families. The results are poor nutrition and budgets strained by the high cost of fast food or commercially prepared meals. Now, due to popular demand, the ladies who brought you Don't Panic--Dinner's in the Freezer offer more of their simple and economical recipes designed to be prepared and frozen for future use. Don't Panic--More Dinner's in the Freezer gives practical tips for planning, organizing, and shopping for meals, as well as unique ways to freeze and reheat prepared foods. Every recipe includes measurements for cooking alone or as a joint venture with one or two friends. Families, singles, retirees--everyone who needs to eat--will find fast and easy answers to the question, "What's for dinner?" |

One little piece of information that I can pass on is the fact that not just this cookbook but all of the cookbooks that Amazon sells of all three of the authors have a large number of reviews and have very high ratings. In addition to noticing the strength of the ratings, the only other things that I can think of to suggest would be for you to read over the umpteen reviews for this and the authors' other cookbooks. I wish that I could whip up a couple of the recipes and try them out for you, but Mr. GtrsRGr8 is taking a hiatus from cooking at the present time. Good luck. |

My Funny Kindle Book of the Day (or Whenever)
It's got 4 1/2 stars from 44 reviews, so somebody knows something that I don't. Still, it's weird.
The only salt block that I had ever heard of until now was the kind like my friend Archie puts out for his cattle to lick on and my grandfather put out for the horse to lick on. I read enough of the book description to know that they're not the same. There is no additional charge for my editorial comments. Salt Block Cooking. By Mark Bitterman. Print list price $24.99 [a real bargain even at that price I'm sure, G]; digital list price $9.99; Kindle price $1.99. http://www.amazon.com/Salt-Block-Coo...+block+cooking. This is the definitive text [You mean there's more than one??? G] on Himalayan salt blocks, written by the man who wrote the definitive text on salt. Enough with salting your food—now it’s time to food your salt! “Mark Bitterman knows more about salt than anyone else on the planet. If you’ve ever wondered what to do with those handsome slabs of Himalayan salt you see at cookware shops, Salt Block Cooking will inspire you with wildly innovative uses you’ve never dreamed of, from cocktails to candy, from curing to grilling, and from ceviche to pizza. Along the way, you’ll learn the half-billion-year history of the only food that starts as a rock.” ––Steven Raichlen, author of the Barbecue! Bible series and host of Primal Grill on PBS “Cooking on salt blocks will blow your mind, jump-start your creative process, make your food taste better, delight your friends, and cut down on the time you spend cleaning pots and pans. And what better guide for your new experience than Mark Bitterman, a man who has forgotten more about salt cookery than I will ever learn.” ––Andrew Zimmern, host of Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern on the Travel Channel “Salt Block Cooking is an essential guide to working with salt blocks. It opens readers’ eyes to possibilities never imagined before and gives a unique perspective on a completely new and interactive way to cook. Mr. Bitterman has changed the way I cook every day. He made me understand that salt is the most essential part of the seasoning process and is just as important as the ingredient itself. I encourage you to follow Mr. Bitterman’s lead and I promise you will never think about salt in the same way again.” ––Vitaly Paley, chef/owner of Paley's Place Bistro and Bar, Imperial, and Portland Penny Diner; coauther of The Paley's Place Cookbook A precious mineral mined from ancient hills deep in Asia has stormed the American cooking scene. With crystals of rose, garnet, and ice, Himalayan salt blocks offer a vessel for preparing food as stunningly visual as it is staggeringly tasty. Guided only by a hunger for flavor and an obsession with the awesome power of salt, award-winning author Mark Bitterman pioneers uncharted culinary terrain with Salt Block Cooking, which provides simple, modern recipes that illustrate salt block grilling, baking, serving, and more. Everyone who loves the excitement and pleasure of discovering new cooking techniques will enjoy this guide to cooking and entertaining with salt blocks. The introduction is your salt block owner’s manual, with everything you need to know to purchase, use, and maintain salt blocks with confidence. The chapters that follow divide seventy recipes into six techniques: serving, warming, curing, cooking, chilling, and of course, drinking. You’ll find recipes ranging from a minty watermelon and feta salad to salt-tinged walnut scones, beef fajitas served tableside, salt-cured candied strawberries, and salt-frozen Parmesan ice cream! A Free, Precious Kindle Cookbook
I think that I would have chosen another title for this book, but it's a man thing, I guess. Anyway, this book comes from a very highly-rated cookbook author and the recipes in it look really yummy. And, it's free!
My Precious Cookbook. By Gia Scott. Rated 5 stars, but from only 1 review; she has many other books on Amazon and, if they are rated, they are all rated very highly. Print list price $14.99; digital list price $4.99; Kindle price $0.00. http://www.amazon.com/My-Precious-Co...cious+Cookbook. My Precious Cookbook is the everyday cook's manual for producing and planning meals, with a wide variety of dishes suitable for almost any occasion. Focusing on economical ingredients, timely preparation, and minimal fuss, they also don't require fancy tools, pans and gadgets to get them to the table. With hundreds of recipes, there is plenty to choose from, making the way from appetizers and snacks, such as spiced chickpeas and peanut toffee popcorn to desserts, with even more options in between. |
