The Einstein Intersection, by Samuel R. Delany (thanks for the correction!), is currently on sale for $3 on Amazon (US, Canada). Kobo Canada does not appear to be offering the same sale but I purchased it and submitted a price match request. edit: and, it's already been approved.

Quote:
A dragon herder embarks on a quest to bring his beloved back from the dead in this Nebula Award–winning science fiction adventure.

The surface story tells of the problems a member of an alien race, Lo Lobey, has assimilating the mythology of earth, where his kind have settled among the leftover artifacts of humanity. The deeper tale concerns, however, the way those who are “different” must deal with the dominant cultural ideology. The tale follows Lobey’s mythic quest for his lost love, Friza. In luminous and hallucinated language, it explores what new myths might emerge from the detritus of the human world as those who are “different” try to seize history and the day.

GENDER-SPUN ALEXANDER THE GREAT ON AN INTERSTELLAR SCALE

Princess Sun has finally come of age.

Growing up in the shadow of her mother, Eirene, has been no easy task. The legendary queen-marshal did what everyone thought impossible: expel the invaders and build Chaonia into a magnificent republic, one to be respected—and feared.

But the cutthroat ambassador corps and conniving noble houses have never ceased to scheme—and they have plans that need Sun to be removed as heir, or better yet, dead.

To survive, the princess must rely on her wits and companions: her biggest rival, her secret lover, and a dangerous prisoner of war.

Take the brilliance and cunning courage of Princess Leia—add in a dazzling futuristic setting where pop culture and propaganda are one and the same—and hold on tight:

This is the space opera you’ve been waiting for.

At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

Thank you. I've been trying to get the three short stories that this includes for a long time and I didn't really want to get the full Apocalypse Triptych set to get them. It'll be nice to have them in one place now.

For those who don't know, In the Air, In the Mountain, and In the Woods were first published, one each, in three collections of indie author works called the Apocalypse Triptych: The End is Nigh, The End is Now, and The End has Come.

Prices have been bouncing on a number of Gardner Dozois' SF anthologies, both the year's best collections and themed collections of classic stories. Right now The Very Best of the Best: 35 Years of The Year's Best Science Fiction is $0.99 at Amazon US Kobo US.

If you're interested in more, I'd recommend sorting his author page at Amazon by price - at this moment 5 year's best and 3 themed anthologies also come up at 99 cents, but some from yesterday are gone.

The Thousand Earths by Stephen Baxter is $0.99 at Amazon and Kobo US.

I haven't read this one, but Baxter is my favorite sci-fi writer aside from Clarke.

Quote:
In 2145AD John Hackett's adventure is just beginning.

In Year 30, Mela's story is coming to a close.

Hackett, in his trusty ship the Perseus, is not just a space traveller - beginning his travels with an expedition to Neptune and back - but, thanks to the time-dilation effect, a time traveller as well. His new mission will take him to Andromeda, to get a close-up look at the constellation which will eventually crash into the Milky Way, and give humanity a heads-up about the challenges which are coming.

A mission which will take him five million years to complete.

Not only is Hackett exploring unknown space, but he will return to a vastly different time.

Mela's world is coming to an end. Erosion is eating away at the edges of every landmass - first at a rate of ten metres a year, but fast accelerating, displacing people and animals as the rising Tide destroys everything in its path. Putting more and more pressure on the people - and resources - which remain.

She and her people have always known that this long-predicted end to their home, one of the Thousand Earths, is coming - but that makes their fight to survive, to protect each other, no less desperate . . . and no less doomed.

A beautiful, page-turning story which interweaves the tale of these two characters, separated by both space and time, in a hopeful exploration of humanity's future, this is Stephen Baxter at his best.

Decision at Doona by Anne McCaffrey is $1.99 at Amazon and Kobo US.

Quote:
A fateful encounter between star-roving races by the author of the bestselling Dragonriders of Pern series!

After the first human contact with the Siwannese, that entire race committed mass suicide. So the Terran government made a law—no further contact would be allowed with sentient creatures anywhere in the galaxy. Therefore Doona could be colonized only if an official survey established that the planet was both habitable and uninhabited.

But Spaceship had made a mistake—Doona was inhabited. Now the colonists' choice was limited. Leave Doona and return to the teeming hell of an overpopulated Terra. Or kill the catlike Hrrubans. Or learn, for the first time in history, how to coexist with an alien race.

The Mote in God's Eye, by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle, is currently $4 at Amazon (US & CA). Kobo (US, CA) does not have it on sale but I have already submitted a price match request. (edit: approved!)

According to eReaderIQ, this is the lowest price at which this book has ever been offered to date.

Quote:
In the year 3016, the Second Empire of Man spans hundreds of star systems, thanks to the faster-than-light Alderson Drive. No other intelligent beings have ever been encountered, not until a light sail probe enters a human system carrying a dead alien. The probe is traced to the Mote, an isolated star in a thick dust cloud, and an expedition is dispatched.

In the Mote the humans find an ancient civilization--at least one million years old--that has always been bottled up in their cloistered solar system for lack of a star drive. The Moties are welcoming and kind, yet rather evasive about certain aspects of their society. It seems the Moties have a dark problem, one they've been unable to solve in over a million years.

This is the first collaboration between Niven and Pournelle, two masters of hard science fiction, and it combines Pournelle's interest in the military and sociology with Niven's talent for creating interesting, believable aliens. The novel meticulously examines every aspect of First Contact, from the Moties' biology, society, and art, to the effects of the meeting on humanity's economics, politics, and religions. And all the while suspense builds as we watch the humans struggle toward the truth. --Brooks Peck
