So no then.

Despite your voluminous verbiage, until you show that you did it right:
  1. Logged in
  2. Went to My Account/Account Settings/Payment Information
  3. Changed Country to United States
  4. Changed store to United States
  5. Attempted to purchase a US only book
  6. Were denied

I am just going to assume you do not know what you are talking about. Everyone who says they do the steps above manages fine. The ones who say they do have problems are sketchy on the details.

To Marry Medusa by Theodore Sturgeon is $1.99 at Amazon US.

Quote:
A Nebula Award–winning author reinvents the alien invasion novel with this story of a malevolent, galaxy-consuming hive mind—and its surprising human hosts.
Drunk, angry, abusive, and pathetic, Dan Gurlick exists at the very lowest level of human civilization, sleeping in junkyard cars and scrounging through garbage cans for his dinner. But his last rotting meal contains something unexpected: a spore that originated from a galaxy many light-years away. First, Dan eats the spore, then, the spore eats Dan; and the homeless alcoholic becomes a host for the Medusa. An insatiable alien hive mind, the Medusa has already consumed the life forms of a billion planets. Now, it hungers for the dominant species of Earth. But to do so, it must somehow unite the planet’s intelligent creatures into a single shared consciousness: an assignment the miserable wretch Dan may prove surprisingly capable of carrying out. To Marry Medusa is suspenseful, inventive, and surprisingly compassionate; a vibrant and unforgettable exploration of what it means to be more—or less—than human.

Yes, there is. I believe (but do not know for sure) that it is maintained by the US Postal Service and contains every street delivery address known to the USPS. Occasionally, when filling in my street address in an online form, a drop down will appear with matching addresses as I type until I type enough that it finds the correct one. Or I select one from the drop-down list. Those web sites use the database, but most do not. I presume the site pays for access to the database as a way to minimize shipping errors.

Yes, I knew that. What I wondered was how do they know what is a "residential" address and I wondered did someone moving into an ex-warehouse or office (such are being repurposed in London) have problems ordering Kindle eBooks in USA.

Sea of Rust: A Novel by C. Robert Cargill - $1.99
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MRWLGD9

Quote:
Review
Sea of Rust is a forty-megaton cruise missile of a novel-it'll blow you away and lay waste to your heart. It is the most visceral, relentless, breathtaking work of SF in any medium since Mad Max: Fury Road.

-- "Joe Hill, New York Times bestselling author"

Sea of Rust is compellingly original and executed with irresistible storytelling. Its straightforward plot will appeal to sci-fi novices and experts alike. Brimming with exciting action, unexpected twists, and honest feeling, C. Robert Cargill's novel is a must-read.

-- "Seattle Book Review"

Cargill's worldbuilding immerses readers in an Earth where only robots roam, giving a balanced amount of philosophy, action, melancholy, and humor...an essential for any sci-fi fan.

-- "RT Book Reviews (4 1/2 stars, Top Pick!)"

Innovative worldbuilding, a tight plot, and cinematic action sequences make for an exciting ride through a blasted landscape full of dying robots.

-- "Kirkus Reviews"

Readers are in for a treat with this snarky, action-packed, postapocalyptic adventure full of speculation about what it means to be alive.

-- "Booklist" --This text refers to an alternate kindle_edition edition.

The USPS's address database includes info on if the address is residential or business. Businesses require different handling, because many receive significantly more mail than a residential address will. They have to know that info to plan deliveries properly.

All Amazon wants for an account is a valid billing address and a valid delivery address. They do not have to be the same. My default billing address and delivery address are a Post Office box. Most Amazon items will ship to the Post Office box but some require a valid street address. For those items I have to change the delivery address to my home address. Amazon allows me to store multiple delivery addresses.

I have never had Amazon refuse to sell me an ebook because I use a Post Office box for my billing address. I use a Kindle as the delivery address.

After loving 2001, 2010 and 2061 I remember being disappointed by 3001. But I wonder if I just set my expectations too high.

I haven't read it yet either, but Mom liked it (picked up when they were last on sale for $1.99 in September/2022). I forget which book it is in, probably 2001, but I still feel bad for the Jupiter animals in Jupiter's atmosphere. I can still picture them racing about....

I believe that was in 2010. In 2001 they actually go to Saturn. It was changed to Jupiter because when they were filming, the rings were too difficult for them to do.
