Please help. I recently updated FanFicFare, and now anytime I try to download and add books using it, the epubs are not being created and it is not asking me to approve the updates and additions after it finishes fetching the metadata for the fanfics that I link in. All I'm seeing is that the jobs are being completed when I add links for fanfics, and the metadata is being fetched but it is not letting me make epubs or anything readable. What I'm seeing in the last output once the job completes is this:
(This is just an example of how it appears for one of my jobs fetching metadata) FFF: DEBUG: 2021-12-23 00:36:37,781: adapter_archiveofourownorg.py(410): Getting chapter text for: https://archiveofourown.org/works/15...apters/5044688 index: 46 FFF: DEBUG: 2021-12-23 00:36:37,783: adapter_archiveofourownorg.py(420): USE view_full_work FFF: INFO: 2021-12-23 00:36:37,806: writer_epub.py(360): Saving EPUB Version 2.0 FFF: INFO: 2021-12-23 00:36:38,274: calibre_plugins.fanficfare_plugin.jobs(142): Download Results: Add https://archiveofourown.org/works/2752568 Download epub completed, 1 chapters. Hi, Happy Holidays to you all. It looks like storiesonline/finestories have changed something on their back end. I'm getting login failed and a login prompt pops up.
Here's a section of the debug log.(Sorry for the long text) (edit: 12/25/2021: Seems to be working today.. sorry for the post.) Don't have the solution to your problem, but I do know that it's preferred you wrap you logs using the little hashtag button above the text box and place your log files in between. Someone who might be able to help will read it while and it will keep the main issue nice and clear.
It looks like this but without the space after the opening bracket. [ CODE] ... [ /CODE] |

Depending on your OS, Calibre's 'Proceed with updating' dialog can become obscured. At least, I've had trouble finding it in mac and linux vs my usual windows. You might also try running Calibre in debug more to get more debug output. As it is, I have no idea. Quote:

all things AO3 bookmarks
Hey, I'm really sorry for the dumb question, I am absolutely not tech-savvy and I've searched the internet up and down for a simple explanation for my problem. I've found some but nothing worked and I am sure I just missed something. I need a simple walk-through, if possible..
I have Calibre with the FFF plugin installed and I use it for AO3 only. Everything works fine now except for one thing: bookmarks. 1.) I'd like it to automatically pull the "bookmarked/not-bookmarked" status of the fic and put it in a custom column (for example "Do I have this bookmarked? Yes/No"). 2.) I'd also like to display the total number of bookmarks a fic has in a custom column automatically, like I have with hits and kudos 3.) not bookmarks but I just remembered this: Is it possible to see chapters in a X\Y format? For example for completed fics 16/16, or WIPs 3/16, rather than just the absolute number of current chapters, like 16? Could someone explain to me step by step what I need to do to make this happen? I've managed to have number of words, hits and kudos pulled automatically, I can see chapters and the completion status and all the dates. But bookmarks give me a headache. -> basically what to I have to add to personal.ini, how exactly do I have to fill the custom column settings (lookup name, type, etc) and do I then have to make changes to the custom column tab in FFF? Thanks so much! |

exclude individual fics from being updated
Hey, another question.
Is there a way to protect individual entries from being updated? I have some downloaded now deleted/privated fics as epubs from AO3 that I added to calibre, but the author is rewriting them and most likely un-privating them again in the future. I would like to keep those old versions as they are and add the newly edited fic as an entirely new entry. Basically, can I right-click a fic and say "Do not allow any changes to this entry by updates" and then, when the supposedly same fic gets published again select to save it as kind of a duplicate but different entry? Thank you! |

Here's an old post about ao3 bookmarks. Search for custom_columns_settings for how to use that feature. Quote:
![]() What I do in such cases is change the title of the old book. New story with new storyUrl won't try to update it when the title is different. If the author re-uses the same storyUrl, you also need to remove the identifer:url value with Calibre's Edit metadata on the old book. |

Otherwise, I change titles to e.g. Some Story (Old) and remove the url: identifier. Last edited by ownedbycats; 12-29-2021 at 08:36 PM. |

Hello!
I recently used the Import List plugin and data-scraped my entire AO3 library for all of my fics’ metadata, which includes its URL, and made "empty" entries for all items. However, when I use the “Get story URLs from select book” option, it reports that no story URLs could be found in the select book. Is there some way to instruct it to get the URL from the metadata, or is there something I’m missing entirely? Thanks very much for any information/help! (And many apologies if this has already been asked and I am just blind) -Tori |

I've never used Import List, so I'm unfamiliar with it.
However, FFF should find the story URL if it's populated into Calibre's Identifiers field as a 'url:' type id. Look in the Calibre Edit metadata dialog for one of them in the 'Ids' field. |

If I am remembering correctly, I've previously had issues with manually-input AO3 urls that had chapters, e.g. /works/12345/chapters/12345. It may be something to check.
