I buy a lot of ebooks, almost all of which are from traditional publishers, and I'm certainly not seeing what you describe. Virtually all the books I buy are well proofed.

If this was 2010, murg would have been right. Back in 2011, when I started buying e-books, I sometimes had to spend over two hours a book to get them up to par. It has been getting better and better through the years, though.

Yes, thanks [for the instructions; no longer the immediate previous note]! I read partway through the instructions and was impressed. My current Calibre is doing ok with my previous DRM setup (from you) so I only read half the instructions and stopped. But I could see that they would be very useful, the next time I need to change something!

I find some books are better than others. New books in ebook format tend to be excellent, but older scanned titles are often not proofed as closely as they could be. I love the Perry Mason books, for example, but if finding typos resulting from scanning mistakes were profitable, I could be a rich man from the errors in that series alone.

We're smart people. We really should be able to think up some way of monetizing that.

It is frustrating that publishers don't seem to be a) interested in getting reports of typos/mistakes, and b) interested in updating their published editions. Those statements are probably related - typos aren't useful unless you are going to republish the books.

The original authors might be more interested.

But generally have no control over the editions published. It certainly is very frustrating.

They may have little control over their recently published books, but they may have more say over their back catalogue which is likely where most of the errors are.

Some are interested. Eg, the "SF Gateway" imprint of Hachette encourages readers to submit error reports, and rapidly corrects books when such reports are received.

That's worth knowing! Does anyone know of any other publishers that correct books?

I have updated the FAQs based on suggestions. Thank you to everyone who read through them. More comments (by email or at GitHub) are welcome.

I would also be grateful if anyone who has experienced the problem of DeDRM failing when importing a large number of ebooks, and can reproduce the problem with DeDRM 6.4.3, would get in touch with me by email or by commenting on the new issue I've opened at github. I've had an idea about what might be causing it, but I can't reproduce it myself to test a possible solution.

What is a 'large number of books'? I've just downloaded 25 books from Kobo into ADE, and then imported them into Calibre (latest version, 64-bit, latest plugins), without problems. I can't reproduce this, or I would need to go and try with 50 or 100 books or something.

The FAQ says "You added your books to calibre in large batches. For some unknown reason, sometimes calibre stops using the plugin after a while on a single import. Delete the books that still have DRM and import them into calibre in batches of twenty."

So I suppose you'd need to try significantly more than 20. I've never seen this either. I'm on a Mac.
