God Rest Ye, Royal Gentlemen is the next to most recent (2021) in Rhys Bowen's really fun, if a tad bit cozy, Lady Georgie series. It has dropped to $1.99 in the US today, even if it is a bit late for Christmas.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08S6ZHFLJ
Kindle US/Smile: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B08S6ZHFLJ
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/god...oyal-gentlemen

Spoiler:
Quote:
Georgie is back and hanging the stockings with care when a murder interrupts her Christmas cheer in this all-new installment in the New York Times bestselling Royal Spyness series from Rhys Bowen.

Georgie is excited for her first Christmas as a married woman in her lovely new home. She suggests to her dashing husband, Darcy, that they have a little house party, but when Darcy receives a letter from his aunt Ermintrude, there is an abrupt change in plans. She has moved to a house on the edge of the Sandringham estate, near the royal family, and wants to invite Darcy and his new bride for Christmas. Aunt Ermintrude hints that the queen would like Georgie nearby. Georgie had not known that Aunt Ermintrude was a former lady-in-waiting and close confidante of her royal highness. The letter is therefore almost a royal request, so Georgie, Darcy, and their Christmas guests: Mummy, Grandad, Fig, and Binky all head to Sandringham.

Georgie soon learns that the notorious Mrs. Simpson, mistress to the Prince of Wales, will also be in attendance. It is now crystal clear to Georgie that the Queen expects her to do a bit of spying. There is tension in the air from the get-go, and when Georgie pays a visit to the queen, she learns that there is more to her request than just some simple eavesdropping. There have been a couple of strange accidents at the estate recently. Two gentlemen of the royal household have died in mysterious circumstances and another has been shot by mistake during a hunt. Georgie begins to suspect that a member of the royal family is the real target but her investigation will put her new husband and love of her life, Darcy, in the crosshairs of a killer.

Awesomely funny book. I've often wished she wrote more in the "series", which is only two books. I first read this when I was dating a guy who was into the sci-fi con stuff in a mild way, and he thought it was spot-on and pretty funny too.

Wild Irish Rose is the most recent (2022) in the Molly Murphy series by Rhys Bowen, co-written with her daughter, Clare Broyles. It's $2.99 right now in the US.

Kindle US/Smile: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B092T8VJJP
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/wild-irish-rose-4

Spoiler:
Quote:
New York Times bestselling author Rhys Bowen, now writing in partnership with her daughter, Clare Broyles, transports and enthralls readers through the incomparable Molly Murphy Sullivan. Wild Irish Rose is the next novel in this beloved mystery series, a cause for celebration for readers and critics alike.

New York, 1907: Now that she’s no longer a private detective—at least not officially—Molly Murphy Sullivan is looking forward to a time of settled tranquility with friends and family. Back in New York, where her own story began, Molly decides to accompany some friends to Ellis Island to help distribute clothing to those in need. This journey quickly stirs up memories for Molly. When you’re far from home and see people from your country, every face looks like a family member.

That evening Molly’s policeman husband, Daniel, is late returning home. He comes with a tale to tell: there was a murder on Ellis Island that day, and the main suspect is the spitting image of Molly. The circumstances are eerily similar to when Molly herself arrived on Ellis Island, and she can’t help but feel a sense of fate. Molly was meant to be there that day so that she can clear this woman’s name.

Joe Picket 1-6 appears to be what it says it is, an omnibus of the first six Joe Pickett books by CJ Box. It's on sale for (!!!!) £0.99 right now at Kindle UK. I'm guessing that Box got the rights back in the UK? In any case, here are the books in the omnibus: Open Season, Savage Run, Winterkill, Trophy Hunt, Out of Range, and In Plain Sight. And here are links:

Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07MQ7CRJL
Kindle UK/Smile: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07MQ7CRJL

There's a second omnibus available also, and I'll keep an eye out for it to go on sale too. Although at £4.68 for six books, it's not badly priced right now anyway. So here are links for that too...

Joe Picket 7-12
contains: Free Fire, Blood Trail, Below Zero, Nowhere To Run, Cold Wind, and Force of Nature
Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07MFRZLWY
Kindle UK/Smile: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07MFRZLWY

Note that "Picket" is misspelled in the titles of the omnibuses, if you just search for them yourself...

Last edited by sufue; 12-26-2022 at 11:07 AM. Reason: forgot to include the books in the second omnibus

I haven't noticed Cats Prowl at Night, which is about 1/4 of the way through Erle Stanley Gardner's Bertha Cool/Donald Lam series, on sale before. It's $1.99 at Kindle US right now. (Sadly not on sale at Kobo US, where it would almost certainly be discountable...)

And Owls Don't Blink is also $1.99 at Kindle US, and not at Kobo US. Links are in this previous post: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh....php?p=4262669

The Hunt is the 27th and most recent (2022) in Faye Kellerman's Peter Decker/Rina Lazarus series. It's $2.99 right now at Kindle US as part of today's Daily Deal, matched at Kobo US.

Quote:
Detective Peter Decker and Rina Lazarus return to Los Angeles when a kidnapping hits close to home—in this breathtaking new thriller from New York Times bestselling author Faye Kellerman.

Peter and his partner, Detective Tyler McAdams, are thrown into an unsolved case and propelled into action when a body is found in the very woods where a man previously went missing in upstate New York.

But that’s not the only crisis that Peter has to deal with.

Teresa McLaughlin, the biological mother of Peter and his wife Rina’s foster son, Gabe, has fled to Los Angeles with her two children in tow, hoping to avoid a court injunction amid a messy divorce. But LA is no escape from her problems—she is found by ruthless men and beaten mercilessly. When she wakes, barely conscious, Teresa discovers that both of her children are gone and frantically calls Gabe for help.

With his mother on the verge of death, Gabe contacts Peter and Rina, as well as his biological father, the notorious Christopher Donatti, a former hit man from a known criminal family who’s now a millionaire in Nevada. By bringing Donatti into the fray, Gabe, Peter, and Rina know they have made a deal with the devil—but they may not be able to recover the kids without him.

As these unlikely allies rally to find the kidnappers before things end tragically, they race headlong toward an explosive confrontation from which no one will emerge unscathed...

Devil House by John Darnielle (of The Mountain Goats) is $3 on Amazon.com
Was on my wishlist.
Quote:
An epic, gripping novel about murder, truth, and the dangers of storytelling.

Gage Chandler is descended from kings. That’s what his mother always told him. Years later, he is a true crime writer, with one grisly success—and a movie adaptation—to his name, along with a series of subsequent less notable efforts. But now he is being offered the chance for the big break: to move into the house where a pair of briefly notorious murders occurred, apparently the work of disaffected teens during the Satanic Panic of the 1980s. Chandler finds himself in Milpitas, California, a small town whose name rings a bell––his closest childhood friend lived there, once upon a time. He begins his research with diligence and enthusiasm, but soon the story leads him into a puzzle he never expected—back into his own work and what it means, back to the very core of what he does and who he is.

Devil House is John Darnielle’s most ambitious work yet, a book that blurs the line between fact and fiction, that combines daring formal experimentation with a spellbinding tale of crime, writing, memory, and artistic obsession.
