Or freshly boiled, then chucked on top of a barbecue for a few minutes, then smothered with butter and fresh ground pepper

I tried growing it once - and discovered the local mice really, really like it

I love corn on the cob but have found that my garden is a slug heaven. I was given a bbq 2 years ago but I have never had a chance to use it properly because of uk weather. I can't wait for the day that I can get home without treading on a snail. I hate that noise. Really upsets me, even though I can't see the snails. I love the days in my uni admissions job that I can help someone who wants to become a midwife or nurse. Really frustrates me when I have to tell people that their work experience doesn't count for as much as work experience. People who have done the job are much more interesting than those who have just spent time in universities, but we can't consider that on applications. I think everyone should do work experience before uni and uni should help with work experience. I loved literature, but all I want to do is write, and I don't want to force people to read my writing. Education and what you get paid for are 2 separate things. I have no confidence in my writing, and it's hard to get that without government support.

Sorry, random reply that had nothing to do with the original comment.

The thing I love about MR is that I can say what I think. Thank you for putting up with me.

Currently, I am listening to a welcome silence.
A bunch of chavs moved in next door, and have a tendency to play techno for hours. I get bored with DJ Sammy after a few minutes. So, when I can't stand it any longer, they get treated to the noisier bits of Wagner at full volume. (I can out-decibel them with no trouble.) Tonight I tried Brunnhilde's Immolation. After 10 minutes there was total silence. Bliss.

We don't have many slugs, but we do have snails galore. Still - they never got a chance to attack the corn (or the beans) - the mice got there first. I had a grand harvest of three borlotti beans that year

Urgh. The education system. I could rant on quite a lot about that.

As for your writing - write stuff and post it here (well, not here in this thread, create a new one in Writer's Corner)

Nothing to put up with

(And that's one of the things I love about MR, too)

Just got home from taking my son back to Chicago O'Hare. He's already safely on the ground in Dallas.
