For the Canadians and others in Life+50 countries, I saw that Faded Page has just added most of the Judge Dee books by Robert van Gulik. This is a favorite series of mine.

I know Patterson is popular and prolific. Oddly, I have never read a single one of his books.

The New Centurions by Joseph Wambaugh is $1.99 at Amazon US.

Quote:
In a class of new police recruits, Augustus Plebesly is fast and scared. Roy Fehler is full of ideals. And Serge Duran is an ex-marine running away from his Chicano childhood. In a few weeks they'll put on the blue uniform of the LAPD. In months they'll know how to interpret the mad babble of the car radio, smell danger, trap a drug dealer, hide a secret, and-most of all-live with the understanding that cops are different from everyone else. But for these men, these new centurions, time is an enemy. The year is 1960. The streets are burning with rage. And before they can grow old on this job, they'll have to fight for their lives...

An omnibus of the first three books in James Patterson's Alex Cross series is on sale in the US right now for $5.99, which is an okay price if you need all three. The title is an imaginative one : Alex Cross, Volumes 1-3.

The books in the omnibus are: Along Came a Spider, Kiss the Girls, and Jack & Jill.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08JH8YY7Y
Kindle US/Smile: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B08JH8YY7Y
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/ale...ital-boxed-set

Spoiler:
Quote:
Discover the first three books in #1 bestselling author James Patterson's #1 bestselling series. Along Came a Spider introduced Alex Cross, a homicide detective with a PhD in psychology. A murderous serial kidnapper determined to commit the crime of the century becomes every parent's bad dream -- and Cross's nightmare. In Kiss the Girls, Cross faces two clever pattern killers who are collaborating, cooperating, competing -- and they're working coast to coast. In Jack & Jill, a rhymed crime-scene not signed "Jack and Jill" puts Cross on notice that no citizen in the nation's capital -- from schoolchildren to those who walk the corridors of power -- will be safe until he can decode the scheme wrought by a pair of fiendish assassins.

The Jupiter Myth is book 14 in the original Falco series by Lindsey Davis. It has dropped to £0.99 at Kindle UK.

Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004RPINSK
Kindle UK/Smile: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004RPINSK

Spoiler:
Quote:
GANGSTERS AND GLADIATING...BOTH BLOODY

For Falco, a relaxed visit to Helena's relatives in Britain turns serious at the scene of a downtown murder. The renegade henchman of Rome's vital ally King Togidubnus has been stuffed head-first down a barroom well - leading to a tricky diplomatic situation which Falco must defuse. One murder leads to others. Londinium now has a forum and an amphitheatre; the town is a magnet for legitimate traders - and for criminals from Rome.

With his vigiles pal Petronius, Falco leads the hunt for gangsters who are intent on taking over. This will bring unwelcome encounters with faces from the past and grave threats to their present relationships.

Danger and death lurk throughout their pursuit, all the way from the brand new wharves beside the River Thames to the familiar old haunts of organised crime back home in Italy...

Donald Lam and Bertha Cool make for a couple of unlikely detectives. Donald is a charming ex-lawyer in his thirties who may lack brawn but makes up for it in brains. Bertha, meanwhile, is a fifty-something-year-old widow who won’t take lip from anyone. She certainly won’t let a bout of illness keep her down. After a stay at the sanitarium, she and Donald are off to Las Vegas for their latest case. Who needs rest?

Mr. Whitewell needs Donald and Bertha to find his son’s fiancée and learn why she abruptly left town. Donald quickly gets to work with just a mysterious letter as his only lead. Soon he uncovers a scheme to swindle casinos, along with a brutal murder. Now he must determine what’s going on before someone ensures he’s the next member of the agency to have a long hospital stay—or worse.

London Bridge Is Falling Down is the most recent (2021) in Christopher Fowler's Bryant & May/Peculiar Crimes Unit series, other than a 2022 book that appears to not be a mystery, but to rather be kind of a travelogue of London from the POVs of the characters in the series. It has dropped to $2.99 in the US.

Kindle US/Smile: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B08Y8D1VFW

And Fowler's Oranges and Lemons, which is the 17th/18th in the series, deprnding on whether you count a collection of short stories, is going for £0.99 in the UK right now.
