Has anyone considered what it would be like if we didn’t have the greenhouse effect?

Extreme Global Warming in the Ancient Past

ScienceDaily (Nov. 11, 2010) — Variations in atmosphere carbon dioxide around 40 million years ago were tightly coupled to changes in global temperature, according to new findings published in the journal Science. The study was led by scientists at Utrecht University, working with colleagues at the NIOZ Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research and the University of Southampton.

Part of the problem I have with the GW controversy. . .

Is that no one who seem most alarmed about it have made any credible suggestions as to what could be done about it.

Part of me wonders if this isn't some sort of scam to justify selling toilet paper made from recycled paper at high prices rather than low? Or to enhance the value of putting the word "Natural" on junk food bubble packs? How do I know it isn't just political strategy of some sort?

What do we do about it? What CAN we do about it? Until the 'greenies' come up with a plan that sets some reasonable goals, lists a clear set of costs and benefits, and seems like it will work in some significant way, why SHOULD I pay any attention?

At this point, it seems all hysteria and hype.

What the heck do you think the Kyota meeting/agreement was about, what do you think the effort at limiting carbon emissions is about?

What can YOU do about it? Dump your SUV, get gas efficient car, ride a bike or the bus...

It's far from hype and hysteria when the scientists and scientific groups are all in agreement.

Dropping the SUV isn't going to help global warming! It might make petroleum last longer, but there aren't enough SUV's in the world to make ANY sort of difference in GW. The numbers just don't add up.

The Chinese have been riding bicycles for years which is more polluted Beijing or L.A.? Furthermore, the Chinese are abandoning bicycles in droves in favor of automobiles. Need I remind you that a Chinese company has purchased the manufacturing rights to civilian Humvees?

The Kyoto accords were more an attempt to limit the economic activity of the West and did nothing to limit the growth of the middle class in China and India.

If Global Warming IS a serious threat to the world, it is the middle class that is at fault. It is the desire for a comfortable life that will be our downfall. And you can't stop the desire to improve our circumstances.

Maybe anyone who owns an eBook reader should be stood against a wall and shot. Not because an ebook reader is ecologically unsound, but because owning a reader is an indication that they have the ability to buy Chinese made products and that means they are encouraging the Chinese to aspire to a better life by driving an automobile.

Maybe Jihadists have the right idea! Take the world back to the 11th century! Un-needed people will die off and all we will need to fear then is the wrath of God!

Serious, EFFECTIVE solutions, that don't take the world back to universal poverty have NOT been put forth!

Interesting....

Please keep it quiet and don't tell Jihadists about it. Lest they take it into their empty heads for the lack of a better filler.

The email reads: "We should refrain from asserting that the planet has warmed (or cooled) in any given period without IMMEDIATELY pointing out that such theories are based upon data that critics have called into question."
It goes on to say: "It is not our place as journalists to assert such notions as facts, especially as this debate intensifies."
Actually, it is the headline that is misleading, not Fox's stance - Fox's stance (it people go to the effort of reading the full story) is to try to report neutrally.
(not that I'm an advocate of Fox news)
