Ah,

I got my reply from bookeen, I asked a question about the new firmware...
Something that may have meant something to me..Zip/Rar support ;__;

'Tis a no...

Quote:
About your second question, the new firmware will not support the zip format.

Thanks for letting folks know...so now it's "in a few weeks." I guess "soon" was too vague for an interview....Bookeen really knows how to throw around promises, don't they? Unfortunately it all means the same thing...."Bookeen will get around to it when they get around to it."

Some people donate there time to contribute factual corrections. They do not need anything in return. Be glad that knowledge is spread.

factual corrections.

I call that silly, and totally useless, anti bookeen propaganda...

Ah, well, hopefully, the "few weeks" will be the right for a change.
And i have to ask Godzil's question again. What to you to gain by doing this ? Think that will make the firmware comes sooner ?

The only thing that will make the firmware updates arrive sooner is to send a 'reasoning' team to Paris with specific instructions to 'reason' with Bookeen. I expect heavy use of aluminum baseball bats, coshes and brass knuckles. Perhaps a sandblaster can be brought in if Bookeen appears extremely recalcitrant.

Propaganda? I was very careful to state the exact truth of what has happened to me only: four months of "in a few weeks" and a lie on the Gen3 specification page before and after I spent my £250.

What do I gain? Not much, no one reads EBookForum posts, but Bookeen seems to put all their propaganda there. Just maybe Bookeen look at what I wrote. I can't see that they look here.

I tried very hard to pick a manufacturer who would wade through this 'Betamax-like' struggle of formats and licensing, and I clearly picked wrong.
I've been had. I hate being cheated. I even get annoyed at queue jumpers. I'm kicking myself for not looking closer at BeBook before I spent my money. Dictionary, schmictionary. This is an ex-parrot.

My only consolation would be a dozen or so Gen3's being sold on eBay for $50, in which case I would lose even more money, but gain some satisfaction.

I'm resigned to forking over another £200 or so to a different manufacturer, although I'm not sure quite who yet. If anyone wants my Gen3, they should check eBay over the next couple of months. I won't bother anyone here with the link. I will continue to follow Bookeen liars around the Net, in case anyone else might get sucked in.

Richard

I realize that this is an inconvenient for some (most?) people, but personally I consider not supporting DRM an advantage.

Yes, I think Olympus' idea is quite sound. He keeps the DRM issue outside the reader and has all the formats he wants without having to do stupid re-flashing because of competing DRMs.

Unfortunately, Openinkpot is not quite as far along on the Cybook Gen3 platform as they are on the HanLin V3 (BeBook, among others).

There is no need to become mean, I appreciate the info: "in a few weeks" is better than "sooooon".
The fact that they still need a few weeks when they already released a working software is quite incomprehensible for me, but it's still better than nothing.

And the fact that we've had that kind of info via a member of a public forum and not from their blog is quite an illustration of their awful PR...

Guess what, the anti Bookeen propaganda is also called "consumer review" And if the consumer are not happy it's not a good feed back...

It won't make the firmware comes sooner, obviously, but if it can prevent someone to make the same mistake than me, I will keep on saying how absud their politic is. It's Bookeen lack of communication that keep the people here so unhappy. And your becoming angry with them is not going to make them stop feeling ignored.

I've had a few good laughts at the way people here turn their frustration sometimes, it helped not being too angry in fact

Won't do, they need to be fit to release the firmware.

You'll be in for some ugly fight. Bookeen has a full stock of two day old baguette breads and some cheese loafs other civilized countries would consider "chemical warfare". Just in case some angry customers might show up ...

And remember, they hold two innocent firmware updates hostage, for months by now!
