If version 8.6 is recent enough for the current ACSM plugin (which it is as demonstrated above) then 8.14 is recent enough for the same plugin.

It's likely (now confirmed) that the poster wasn't installing the correct file. Was going to point them at the discussion a couple of pages back but they figured it out on their own.
I have read of some having trouble with something and installing the latest version of calibre solved whatever the problem was.

Getting hundchen123 to upgrade from the version 7 branch to a recent version 8 was the right thing to do. Props for that. Just try not to be so quick to assume that every problem is an old version problem.

I know not everything is an old version problem. But, it's better to try on a current version if possible because if it's a problem with calibre, then it can be fixed. But it won't be fixed if the problem is in an older version.

Is it possible to use acsm with the fulfil.py script to download an ebook that will work on an already activated eReader (i.e kobo) ?

I looked at copying the activation.xml/device.xml from the already activated eReader with a view to having fulfil.py use the eReaders keys rather than the keys my pc would have from register_ADE_account, but that appears to be missing the pkcs12 entry and breaks.

Any other way to go about this?

I would really like to be able to download the ebook from a URLLink.acsm file and just transfer it to the eReader so I can avoid the need to use ADE in wine to manage it all.

I know I can just strip the DRM but I'd prefer not to as these are loaned books.

edit: Apologies for this post _and_ a post in the calibre forum. When I posted this is just went blank so I assumed there was something wrong with the thread. It was only after posting in the general calibre forum that I received a message to say the post will appear after approval by moderators.

You cannot do this on a Kobo. But what you can do is use calibre and the ACSM Input Plugin and that will pull down the ePub from the ACSM file directly into calibre. And if you also have the DeDRM plugin installed and correctly configured, DRM will be automatically removed.

When you download library eBooks, you could disable DeDRM download them, and then enable DeDRM.

Using DeDRM is fine, but if I disable it for library books I don't see how I'd be able to then read it on the Kobo after transfering as (assuming my understanding of ADE DRM is correct anyway) the download is not tied to the account but also the device that downloaded it?

What I'm trying to accomplish is download using acsm on a PC with DRM that would work when the book is manually copied over to the Kobo. So somehow it needs to take into account the activation.xml/device.xml of the kobo, but I'm not sure if that's possible.

It's possible as long as the ACSM Input plugin and the Kobo are authorized using the same Adobe account.

I'll give it a go later, although I was hoping to avoid the need to use calibre too. I did try copying the epub over manually but received an unauthorised error unless DRM was removed. Perhaps Kobo requires ADE DRM protected books to be managed differently which calibre handles?

That siad, I can download/remove drm with two cli commands currently then just copy over to root of Kobo. So I may just stick with that. Saves installing calibre or ADE in wine.

Maybe one day Kobo will include support for borrowbox or Adobe will make a linux port of ADE to save using wine

Thanks anyhow.
