Walnut cover release date is now May 4 -- my order has been delayed accordingly. That's strange as the black Kindle still ships on the original date.

Why would the ship date for an entire cover be pushed back after the announcement has already happened and customers have ordered with ship dates promised?

Manufacturing quality issues with that colour maybe? Something similar happened several years ago with one of the Samsung phones - it might have been the S3 - when one colour got delayed by several weeks because there was a problem with the finish on the battery cover, AFAIK they binned and remanufactured all their stock of battery covers in that colour but the other colour wasn't affected and shipped on time.

And Amazon obviously won't ship the Oasis without the cover because of the battery life...

The voyage is $199 and £169 here ,the higher the amount the greater the difference should be,basic economics people!

For a DIY'er, it is here now!! Just clean your Kindle with an isopropyl alcohol wipe (like an eye glass cleaner) to remove finger grease. Then apply a thin bead of silicone adhesive (available at any home center or variety store) around the screen bevel or edge and around the case seam. Will make for good splash protection and water resistance (maybe even waterproofing.)

NOTE: I have not performed or tested this idea. Just thinking out loud. I assume no liability if you do this and ruin your e-reader with water. I have good lawyers.

Anyone know of this ereader? https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/WEXLER._Flex_ONE

Came out years ago apparently,has a 6 " plastic substrate screen and weighs 110g,oh and it has a 600mAh battery,much larger than Oasis 250mAh abomination.

Actually, the comparison is very fair. Leaving the cover behind will net you only 7 hours of battery life (2 weeks @ 30 min/day). That's only a third of the Voyage's 21 hour battery (6 weeks @ 30 min/day).

Without the case's extra battery, Amazon can't advertise longer battery life:
