It could be my imagination, but I think the typography has improved.

This is not surprising, given they have given us no details about what has changed. I'm going to retract my conjecture about improved typography. I saw a hyphen or two and got overly excited.
My guess it is just applying the latest patches to the underlying Android system (KitKat), which cost them almost zero development time (since the work is done at Google), and nothing more than that. If they failed to pass along security fixes to their customers (at least one of which is included with this update), it might leave them liable for something. I appreciate that they are keeping up with this, minor though it may be. It took nearly the better part of a year for my other Android phone to get an update that eliminated the Stage Fright vulnerabilities, following the public disclosure. While these weren't exploited in the wild to any degree, it represented an 'existential' security concern, almost without precedent in terms of the number of devices affected and the ease with which it could be delivered: someone could take over a phone by sending an SMS message that subsequently got opened, that is to say, if people were just using their phone in a normal way. Just wanted to take a moment to express my joy about scrolling mode in the reading app, or at least the Platonic ideal thereof. It's not perfect: it is a little jerky, doesn't work with TTS or 'immersion reading' (which itself is buggy on Fire Phone), but I love being able to read continuously without touching anything or having page turn animations interrupt.
Tech tip: if you are using gesture-driven scrolling and it gets stuck (which it will), 'flip' out the TOC panel from the left, and flip it back. You'll be unstuck, no touch required! Or use constant scrolling mode (tap the 'lock' icon in lower right corner and select reading speed). It won't get stuck, but will still occasionally scroll 'discontinuously'. To make an annotation, scroll the text to the center of the screen, tap once to bring up the scrolling controls, and a second time to reveal reading options and scrubber on right, then you can make the selection. Gesture-driven scrolling is, of course, available in Silk browser as well. For some reason it is smoother and faster, and doesn't get stuck. Last edited by tomsem; 01-14-2016 at 11:20 PM. |

I keep trying to use the native reading app on the phone for TTS but I think it stalls because of my rather large cloud library. I click to download books from the cloud, they don't seem to download, I then go to the Manage Your... page to send the book to the device from there, and it doesn't get there unless I restart the device.
Back to Calibre Companion and MoonReader and a seamless download/reading experience. Man I'm full of complaints today. ![]() |

Why would you need an app to use TTS? Just click on the > at the bottom of the page.

Because it requires a reboot to see anything new in my Kindle library OR to get a book sent to the Fire Phone. I've asked support about it, but have never had it escalated to a higher tier of CS because I don't use the device that often (because of these issues).

I Never had those or any problems with my Phone. Not sure what rebooting has to do with TTS. Ask the folks in https://www.mobileread.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=150 maybe they can help you.

The book doesn't come to my Fire phone unless I reboot, at that point I can use the TTS. Can't use the TTS feature if the book I want to listen to can't get to the device!

I can Side Load or Down Load direct from Amazon I Never had to Re-boot after each ebook to read or listen thru the TTS. I also Don't use a TTS app. I say Get rid of the App. Use the phone like it was developed to be used.

Hey, am I the only Fire Phone user that didn't know you could change your wall paper? I discovered it yesterday.
