I just started "Kindred Spirits" by Ashanti Luke. (Reading on Kindle for Android) I'll give it a few more chapters before I deside whether to put it down or continue. The first 300 locations (yep Kindle reference) has not "grabbed" me. I'll see what happens within location 1000. Anyway, can't wait until I get home from offshore and have my claws around my Kindle 3. The book I'll start then will be the "Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follett. Bought it paperback a few years ago, but never got around to start reading. Albeit the books (splitted in two books in Norwegian) have been literally around the world from Spitsbergen via the Falklands to Indonesia, but still unread.. |

I'm currently reading Soulstorm by Chet Williamson, I really like haunted house stories where a group of people, who usually don't know each other, stay at a haunted house. Tomorrow I'll also start with the pbook of Reliquary by Preston and Child, I'm going to the hairdresser and with all the sprays, water, and dyes I'd rather not take my ereader with me. |

I can't believe how fast you guys read I just started 'Empire in black and gold' by Adrian Tchaikovsky, the first book in the Shadows of the Apt series. It's about a bunch of people with insect totems whose strengths and powers they take over, which I thought could be interesting. So far it's pretty dull ... |

I'm reading "Manchu Palaces" by Jeanne Larsen. Unfortunately it's not published as an e-book (I haven't even been able to find an unofficial version). It's the third book in her Avalokitesvara (a.k.a. the goddess Guan-yin) trilogy. I've read the first two books ("Silk Road" and "Bronze Mirror" many times over for years, but it wasn't until recently when I decided to buy them as p-books, I realised there were a third book. I'm really enjoying it. I like her style, which is a bit poetic, sensual in a way, and she likes to play with the notion of reality - the reality of ours, the humans, and the one of the gods'. Since I still enjoy her style, and it must be almost 20 years since I read "Silk Road" the first time, I'm very tempted to buy them as cheap paperbacks and scan them to create my own e-books. |

I'm trying to finish "Library: An Unquiet History" by Matthew Battles (having a hard time with it, it's rather dry in most places). Also working on "Catch 22" by Joseph Heller in celebration of Banned Books Week.

Picked up "Dead(ish)" by Naomi Kramer yesterday on Amazon only just starting with it, having to get my brain used to jumping around a bit initially.

I've just finished the next in the series, Patrimony. This was better than Trouble Magnet, and actually lead to some (unsurprising) new info. Now I'm onto the last one, Flinx Transcendent. So far it's a bit better, but it still feels as though the series has been dragged out. I suspect that the last six books could have been comfortably trimmed to two, with several adventures being dumped entirely. But who knows — perhaps the last in the series will redeem the rest. | |
