I agree with Lynx-lynx... Thanks for that insight, Billingsgate. I do purchase a few books from a travel account that are not discountable in my home store, but mostly I purchase books that are not available from ANY publisher in my home store. Most of Michael Moorcock's back catalog is out of print in the US. I've bought the US editions of the books that ARE available, but I've picked up the Gollancz/Orbit editions of those that are not available in North America. I'd buy them from my store, except they're not available at any price. I owned most of them as pbooks, but am replacing them with ebooks.

Well, totally OT for this thread, but I was curious about Michael Moorcock, so put "Moorcock" into the Kobo search engine to check out if his books were something I would be interested in. I sadly discovered Jenni Moorcock, whose books came up first. To each his own I guess, but I was kind of sad these popped up on a general search that my kid could have done if looking for Michael Moorcock's books.

Has anyone here used an Indigo gift card on the site recently? I bought one a month or two ago, and lately, I can't get the site to accept it.

Lack of availability is why I ventured to travel recently, in order to get a book chosen for the Literary Book Club in March. It simply wasn't available in Australia (it was by a Native American and maybe thought not to be of interest, or with a publisher not in Oz) so I tried a change of address in order to get it. The other alternative was to buy a secondhand copy through Abe Books, but in that case, the author doesn't get anything. So I feel totally comfortable about what I did - it certainly wasn't to try and squeeze every last cent out of the system.

Regarding the PayPal thing, I don't remember seeing it as an option on many websites in Japan. I don't know how popular it can be now, but then the payment options were credit card or conbini.

I wrote to let you know how things operate in Japan, because Rakuten is Japanese company. And you are right, it's still mostly credit card or コンビニ. I mentioned paypal, because it's an option on some other Kobo sites. Anyway,my main point was:
You cant change countries at the checkout on Japanese handled Kobo site.
I didn't realize that my post would make me sound scared. I'm sorry.
I am in no way scared and I don't think we have to brace ourselves for any upcoming change in Kobo policy, so we're all good

Yes, I noticed when I followed a Kobo link from either the author's site or sfgateway's site, they were actually searching for Michael Moorcock, not just Moorcock... When I did the search myself, I discovered why.

I think there's a method behind it: after our 90% (or was it 95%? I can't even remember) spree, some 50's appeared, now some 40's and slowly we're being eased back to accepting even a 20. No cold turkey, just slowly kicking the habit. Kobo cares for us.
