The formatting problems on Smashwords were, very kindly, fixed by Mark Cocker so you can now hop over there and see it if you wish. Also available on Kindle.

Amazon has discounted a couple of titles to $2.39
Working Stiffs is my Anthony Award winning collection of crime stories. The workplace is a dangerous place. The unscrupulous are primed and ready to take advantage of the innocent and naïve. A slight indiscretion can cost the employee everything. A new position can turn a person into someone they are not. Those at the top can be toppled and those at the bottom can be crushed. On the most important day of his career, Sam's world will unravel when he helps a woman in distress. Todd has failed in every job he's undertaken, but that changes when he backs into a drug dealer's car. Now he's in hock with organized crime and can only get himself out from under if he works for them to pay off his debt. Kenneth Casper is ailing and so is his business empire. His shareholders circle like vultures. Casper pins all his hopes on a Peruvian shaman with a miracle cure. http://www.amazon.com/Working-Stiffs.../dp/B002VWKG2C Dragged into Darkness a collection of Twilight Zonesque stories. The world is a dark place, even in daylight. The book features tales from the subtle to the extreme. The characters are ordinary people ripped from their daily routines thrust into a dark world and their lives will never be the same. In The Eye of the Beholder, Dr. Gareth Troy empathizes with his tortured patients' disfigurements a little too much. For Grace in Purely Cosmetic, reaching her target weight is all that matters. In Acceptable Losses, Captain John Clelland has struck the worst of bargains for the lives of allied soldiers. In Runway Three-Seven, a pilot is forced to land his crippled aircraft on a runway that can't possibly exist. http://www.amazon.com/Dragged-into-D.../dp/B002HWSLFU |

I am busy elsewhere on this forum self-promoting, so I will take this opportunity to thank everybody here for your willingness to listen to us loud, raucous, rascally, and distracting writers. I wandered over to the Kindle Discussion Groups ... and found people sharing recipes for suet, trading kittens, trashing threads they disagreed with ... and bad-mouthing writers. So ...

Self Arrest: A Thriller
I'd like to add my thriller Self Arrest to the mix.
Here is my description: Over fifty million people died when the Spanish Flu swept the globe in 1918. The virus attacked the young and healthy, dealing a crippling blow to a world still reeling from the horrors of the First World War. It wormed its way into communities large and small, killing mercilessly, before abruptly vanishing without a trace in the summer of 1920. That was then. In 2005, scientists completed sequencing the genetic code of the Spanish Flu. The following year, they infected monkeys with a reanimated strain of the very same virus. The monkeys exhibited classic symptoms of the 1918 Spanish Flu. Then they died. This is now. In the course of a routine transfer between government facilities, a team of ruthless mercenaries intercepts a supply of a highly engineered Spanish Flu virus. Gage Mercer, the future son in law of a deranged billionaire, finds himself drawn into a plot to trigger the extinction of the human race through a deliberate release of the virus. This could be the future. Self Arrest is available on Kindle, Kobo, iBooks, and on various DRM-free eBook formats via smashwords. You can either purchase directly using the links below or visit my website http://www.williamesmont.com, where you will find links as well as information on upcoming works.

Shameless promotion? I don't usually do that, but I'll give it a shot.
Shard Mountain, a post apocalypse fantasy, now in 3D! ![]() Who else has a moving 3D version of their book's cover? This is a line that few would cross. Few would even dare to contemplate it, yet here it is. There's a lot more to this story than just a mountain covered in broken glass. It's about two young men who sleep for over 500 years, waking up in a post apocalypse world they could never imagine. It's an epic adventure that has strong themes reflecting the problems of our time, and what might happen in the far future. It also includes sex, drugs, and rock & roll, though not in that order. It's been getting some pretty good reviews on amazon that I won't bother to reprint, but you can read them all here if you are interested. The book is now available for most digital readers from Smashwords, also available for the Kindle, iPad, and dead trees paperback editions. You can read more about the book at my website, shardmountain.com, where I also posted a gallery of images related to the book. |

I thought this would be buried beneath the shameless posts of other authors. Did I go too far with the 3D book cover for Shard Mountain? How's this instead?
![]() Charles Rogers, a young computer geek, thought he was going to prison, but an unexpected bus accident changes his life forever. He wakes up more than five-hundred years later in a dark metal tomb, where an artificially intelligent hologram informs him that he's now the property of the Synaptech corporation, and that technically, he's no longer a human being. This begins Charles' quest to discover what happened to him during his long sleep, as he learns to cope with life in a new world. The ancient cities lie in ruins, destroyed by a cataclysmic war while he slept. Civilization is in the process of rebuilding, but life in general has reverted to a more primitive state, similar to life on the frontier in the old west. Charles will need to learn to survive in a world where mutations are common among people and animals, and pieces of fantastic ancient technology lie buried in the ruins, waiting to be reclaimed. Can Charles adapt to his new life in the future, disconnected from everything and everyone he ever knew? And what about the hologram's warning, that he won't be able to survive for very long away from his sleep pod? Should he believe it, or trust his gut feeling that he's still the same person he always was? ... It's only $2.99, available for most digital readers from Smashwords. Check out the free preview, it's the entire first half of the book. |

I just tried to look at your book, Lexi, but smashwords is down.
![]() I really hate when that happens, because it means my book is also unavailable, and thousands of others. We should stage an intervention. |

It's a victim of its own success...but one does wonder why they don't just quadruple its capacity (you can tell I know what I'm talking about, can't you?)
