I have WinCE 2.0. The default menu language is Chinese. I checked out the language setting, no other options are available, to my surprise. My problem with Wifi is the signals (mine and my neighbours') are there but it stays at "scanning" mine, never connects to it. It seemed to connect to one of my neighbour's wireless (no password) but never to mine. I think maybe it is because I didn't configure it correctly. Do I need to authorize Q7 from my laptop where I set up the router? I use exactly the same settings, including password, as in my laptop, which is using cable now.

As to bluetooth, I added my laptop to CE but the only icon I can see on Q7 is BTPAN1 under net connections. I don't know where the interface is. On my laptop I can see "blueZ PANU service on WinCE, connected" and "Personal Ad-hoc network on WinCE" (green, connected). For my cellphone, I use "OBEX file transfer" to open the directories and transfer files back and forth but for Q7, when I click "OBEX", it tells me "service not found".

BTW, I use Window XP on my laptop
Try this on your WinCE files; https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=53341 it should give you 95% English and might help sort your connection problems. I will have to refresh my memory regarding WinCE connections before I comment any further.

Hi Nation, I tried the CAB, which led to a disarster. All Chinese characters didn't turn into English but squares, both in the menu and Chinese files. Could you please tell me how to change it back? (I don't want reintall WinCE and all the programs I have now). I can't do anything with Q7 now. BTW, the internet problem was not solved. Thank you very much

Sorry to here that, it worked OK for me Where did you get your WinCE files from ? What version was it?
I'm guessing only a re-install will sort the problem You can get an 'Englishized' WinCE 6.0 ver 2.0 from here http://www.eletroworld.cn/ click on Service in the top menu and look in the list.
Re the WiFi: You mentioned "it stays on scanning, mine never connects" what messages do you get in the status bar when you click on the connect button beneath the SSID Name?

I bought my CE license with the device so it was pre-installed. I am not sure if I can get an english version with the license or with an English version I can still read Chinese.

I clicked on "connect" button but it keeps on scanning...

The licence will work with any version, so no problem there with you downloading other/newer versions. What strength signal % does it show ? What info does it report when you click the ► chr$ to the left of the SSID name?

You are right. The license works and the English version is also the newest. I put in the same password as on my laptop, it started to "scanning" (the first time it is "authenticating" but failed), the signal strength is "excellnet. I checked the second line below. It is connected but I can't open webpages. "the page cannot be displayed"

Network name (SSID) ****
(checked) This is a computer-to-computer...
Encryption: TKIP
Authentication: WPA-PSK
Network Key: ****

I openned "Network Connections". There are two icons: SDIO86861 (Marwell Wireless card settings) and BTPAN1 ("Bluetooth PAN Driver" settings". It seems that I need to fill in IP address and Name Servers, what are those?

I guess Q7 is connected to the router now but not the internet...

DOH, I forgot you are doing this in WinCE The problem for me now is that I have set my WinCE to auto-connect to my router so It wont go through the connect routine, so I will have to improvise.

OK, by picking another SSID on my SDIO advanced properties screen I am trying to log onto a neighbours device so I can go through the connection procedure.
Double-Click the two comp icon in the bottom right corner of your screen. Select the 'Wireless Information' tab. Select your router, click advanced, tick the 'use Windows to configure ...., click 'OK', click 'Connect'
1. Do not tick comp-to-comp box
2. Select encryption for your router
3. Select Authentication
4. Type in your password (Network key)
5. Click 'OK'

I think this is correct, problem now is I have screwed my own machine It might be that the houndx translation program leaves you with needing a password that must be all numbers, mine is a mix of numbers & letters, that was not a problem when I first connected with the Chinese version. So I am now going to re-install the Chinese version and see If I can log back in again.

Actually this is what I had done before. If I don't click the comp-to-comp box, it will authenticate but then the authentication will be automatically cancelled, and then re-quthenticating forever!! Btw, I can't "select" authentication, no such option, I click "connect" then the authentication starts. I am thinking there should be some configuration on the computer where the router was installed, for instance, to assign a key for other devices that share the same router. Is that right?

I am now using the English version, which also allows mixed letters and numbers as keys. I thought all automatically generated keys for networks are mixed...

Ok, I am now up and running again. I used an original Chinese ver of WinCE to log in with the alpha-numeric password (network key) I then shut down and booted with my Englishized version and it connects automatically again

I pretty sure the computer to computer box should be un-ticked.

You should not need to do anything on your main computer/router unless you have restricted it to know MAC addresses only.
If you already have an entry for your router (shown as preferred?) in the Wireless Information box then delete it (select it and click on advanced, select again and delete). Now when it re-appears in the Wireless Info box select it and click 'connect' It should make you go through the connection procedure again, use the procedure I mentioned earlier and give it another go.

On your Englishized version, when you say it allows mixed letters & numbers, well you can type them in but it won't work. (see Houndx's own post in his thread!) If your router password is mixed alphanumeric then you must load a Chinese version first, log in then change back to the English version.
Phew!

Phew!

Thank you. But I did exactly the same thing with my Chinese version before I use Houndx's Cab file. It didn't work. That was why I switched to the English version, hoping it would help somehow...

Yes, I deleted in the entry to my router (preferred) and set up the pw again. It didn't work. Guess I need the Chinese version back?

So you have the English and the Chinese versions installed at the same time? Maybe I should try that.

What are other people's thoughts?
I don't have a Q anything, but I do have a Kindle 2. I would say that there is only one way I know of to get a permanent Internet connection for $0 monthly cost, and that is a Kindle. If anyone knows an alternative, please let me know.

My Kindle cost me $300. For that cost, I can email anywhere a cell phone would work with Sprint, and I can read news or Twitter. I can do this for no cost except the originial $300. I think it is worth more than $300 for this one feature.

I agree that black and white is no big deal versus color -- eye strain seems to me about the same, but I have spent many, many hours on my Nokia N800 and N810 with no problems with eye strain.

I can get all the books on Project Gutenberg for free with my Kindle, and on many other sites. Can you tell me for certain that I can't convert files and get the Google book files on my Kindle? I haven't tried. I haven't noticed a fantastic selection of books in the Google book files that are not available from Project Gutenberg, can you list a few essential books that are not available from Gutenberg that ARE available from Google? Numbers of hundreds of thousands of books are somewhat worthless; you can't read numbers, only books.

I have bought some very good books from Amazon that are definitely not available from free, legitimate sites. I am reading some Harry Bosh detective novels right now, I read Four Days in November, a fabulous book about the JFK assassination, and I read some other fiction, all costing me a reasonable $9.99 each.

I am tempted to buy a Q7 myself! But I think the Kindle 2 is a very good deal. I can't speak for the DX.

Sorry, it seems my last message didn't get posted.

I got the connection in a very weird way last night. I tried capital letters as I had before and a new keyboard application. It didn't seem to work so I left the machine alone, thinking to give up. 20 mins later, I activated screen and it was connected!! I don't know what did the magic as I can't remember what I tried for the last time. I was just playing with the options. Was it because the new keyboard, the capital letter, or both, or neither?

Anyway, I am not going to touch it untill next time the connection is lost...

How is your bluetooth working? Can you transfer files between Q7 and your computer or cellphone?
