A Regency Charade by Elizabeth Mansfield was free back in the Open Road freebie-thon back in December, but if you missed it then, it has now dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US (VIP/couponable).

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Regency-Chara...dp/B00PTIMS8A/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/a-regency-charade

Spoiler:
Quote:
A daring charade could reunite a husband and wife in award-winning author Elizabeth Mansfield’s sparkling Regency romance

After nearly losing his life at the Battle of Waterloo, Captain Alexander Tyrrell, Earl of Braeburn, comes home to the shocking news that he is still married. Braving enemy fire is nothing compared to having to see the duplicitous Priscilla Vickers again.

Priss has waited six years to be reunited with the man she loves. But her husband believes her guilty of the worst kind of betrayal. And nothing she says or does will convince him that Sir Blake Edmonds isn’t her illicit lover. It will take a daring deception—and a scheming minx who has set her cap for Alec—for these two people to realize how much they have lost and how much they could gain if they were to find the courage to turn a sham union into a second chance for happiness.

I just finished Archangel's Legion. Wow The action in that book was fantastic! I'm not talking about the rabbit scenes. This one was five stars for me. Only three more left!

Yes, it's also one of my favorites.

Enjoy the remaining three books! I also love Naasir's book (Enigma). He's a fun character to read.

Yes, this was also one of my favorites.

The most recent book was probably one of my least favorites - or maybe I should say most "forgettable". I might have been in a funk when I read it, and I haven't done a re-read of the Guild Hunter series lately.

Funny how much tastes differ. Archangel's Legion was only so-so for me, but I adored the most recent book.

Thanks I've started the next one as I adore these two in their novella. Can anyone say Rogue/Gambit? The similarities there. Did you notice too?

Well, I love both.

I like that their relationship has become more stable in the most recent book (Heart); they don't argue or fight as much anymore. Besides, it's always interesting when there's a mystery to solve. And, Aodhan! I can't wait for his own book.

Anyone read Silver Silence by Nalini Singh yet? I mostly do audiobooks these days, and we were talking about the "rabbit" parts and audiobooks earlier.

Well, this time I swear she's used a pair of words I don't remember her using before for female body parts. She used both p**** and t*** - the first one multiple times (sometimes multiple times in a paragraph!)

I grew up with four brothers in a blue-collar household, so t*** doesn't bother me, and I sometimes wonder why we don't see it more often (when we're reading/hearing the hero's point of view). But p**** made me flinch every time the narrator said it! I really hate that word.

On top of that, she pronounced two of the Russian character names (Valentin and Anastasia) in ways that don't sound right to me. Not being Russian, I can't say for sure, but it still jars every time I hear them.

This is definitely one audiobook that I wish I'd read instead.

X-Men characters from Marvel comics. Rogue is a southern belle who can't be touch or touch by anyone or she absorbs them and she super strong and can fly. Gambit is a Cajun Master Thief who has kinetic powers. His favorite weapon a deck of cards. He's also skilled with the Bo.

Ashwini can't touch people but she can Janvier. Janvier is a jack of all trades. I can't give more away without spoilers.

I've never listed to any of Nalini's books on audio. I used to listen to the In Death books, but did not like the way the narrator voiced certain characters (Peabody, Leonardo, Baxter, and particularly Roarke who sounded like the Lucky Charms leprechaun ).

While not favorites, neither of those two words bothers me. But I do think listening to them is quite different than reading them.

Did you listen to Nalini's interview on NewstalkZB? She pronounced his name as Val-in-ten (not like Valintine with a long "I"). She pronounced it the same way I would have guessed (that is not like the holiday).

How did the narrator pronounce it? Also Anastasia in Russian is with a short "a" sound in the middle, not An-a-stay-zee-a like I've heard it pronounced a lot.

I am by no means an expert. I took two years of Russian in high school, but still had to google most of the phrases in the book.

I'm listening to the interview now, and she says Valentin the way I expected - with the stress on the first syllable. But the audiobook narrator is both 1) stressing the second syllable instead and 2) sometimes she's ending it with "ian" instead of "in". Think of how you'd say Se-BAS-tee-un. She's more than half the time saying Val-IN-tee-un. Arrgh.

Like you, I studied Russian long ago (I was in college, not high school, but that was almost 40 years ago!!) So I understand about the "a" being more like "ah". To my mind, it would be AHN-uh-STAH-seeya, not Ahn-uh-stuh-SEE-ya.

But I also admit that it's been a long time since I was exposed to anything but the most peripheral Russian (two of my co-workers speak it, so we all say the Hi, and How Are you....but then I'm out of conversation. )
