The most recent book was probably one of my least favorites - or maybe I should say most "forgettable". I might have been in a funk when I read it, and I haven't done a re-read of the Guild Hunter series lately. |

Funny how much tastes differ. Archangel's Legion was only so-so for me, but I adored the most recent book. |

Thanks I've started the next one as I adore these two in their novella. Can anyone say Rogue/Gambit? The similarities there. Did you notice too?

![]() I like that their relationship has become more stable in the most recent book (Heart); they don't argue or fight as much anymore. Besides, it's always interesting when there's a mystery to solve. And, Aodhan! I can't wait for his own book. |

Anyone read Silver Silence by Nalini Singh yet? I mostly do audiobooks these days, and we were talking about the "rabbit" parts and audiobooks earlier.
Well, this time I swear she's used a pair of words I don't remember her using before for female body parts. She used both p**** and t*** - the first one multiple times (sometimes multiple times in a paragraph!) I grew up with four brothers in a blue-collar household, so t*** doesn't bother me, and I sometimes wonder why we don't see it more often (when we're reading/hearing the hero's point of view). But p**** made me flinch every time the narrator said it! I really hate that word. On top of that, she pronounced two of the Russian character names (Valentin and Anastasia) in ways that don't sound right to me. Not being Russian, I can't say for sure, but it still jars every time I hear them. This is definitely one audiobook that I wish I'd read instead. Last edited by FizzyWater; 06-17-2017 at 04:07 AM. |

![]() While not favorites, neither of those two words bothers me. But I do think listening to them is quite different than reading them. Did you listen to Nalini's interview on NewstalkZB? She pronounced his name as Val-in-ten (not like Valintine with a long "I"). She pronounced it the same way I would have guessed (that is not like the holiday). How did the narrator pronounce it? Also Anastasia in Russian is with a short "a" sound in the middle, not An-a-stay-zee-a like I've heard it pronounced a lot. I am by no means an expert. I took two years of Russian in high school, but still had to google most of the phrases in the book. Last edited by Blossom; 06-17-2017 at 05:27 AM. |

Like you, I studied Russian long ago (I was in college, not high school, but that was almost 40 years ago!!) So I understand about the "a" being more like "ah". To my mind, it would be AHN-uh-STAH-seeya, not Ahn-uh-stuh-SEE-ya. But I also admit that it's been a long time since I was exposed to anything but the most peripheral Russian (two of my co-workers speak it, so we all say the Hi, and How Are you....but then I'm out of conversation. ![]() |
