Good summary, though, overall.
Indeed -

Right now, a KOA or KT3 owner needs to open and read the "Usage" section.
It contains the information that needs to be worked into the in-line instructions as a "special case".

But I am trying to take some time away from the keyboard today.
The information required IS in there, somewhere, it is just that the user has to put it together themselves from the pieces.

Good summary, though, overall.
I sent the author a series of emails, and he updated his article to include extra links and KUAL booklet support. He left out the KUAL .azw1 for older kindles I suggested. But overall excellent.

Some answers in the comments could be a bit more complete and detailed though (some people seem to be jumping to false conclusions in the comments).

We are not supposed to provide direct links to firmware images, nor do we want them directly clickable or to be indexed by bots. Please change "http://" to "hxxp://", or better, just provide server name and filename and remove the rest in your post (see my editted version in the quote above). Thanks.

On Windows you can use the built in certutil command:

Code:
C:\>certutil -hashfile update_PW2_5.4.3.2_initial.bin MD5
MD5 hash of file update_PW2_5.4.3.2_initial.bin:
3c ba c0 b4 82 1c ec 03 43 2b 9e d3 82 74 4f 41
CertUtil: -hashfile command completed successfully.

I did not know that. Yup, it works on this win7 ultrabook. I have been installing an app for that. Thanks!

md5sum -c name-of-hash-file
The hash file has the name of the file to be tested, and both files need to be in the same directory.

But any md5 tool will work, it is a standard crypto function.

Put in first post?
No way - there are a zillion such utilities, too many to list.
Google should be able to give you a list if you need a list.

I would guess, as a Linux user, NiLuJe uses the command-line `md5sum` provided by GNU coreutils.

Here is a list of Windows GUI utilities for calculating checksums. https://www.raymond.cc/blog/7-tools-...5-sha1-hashes/

One could at least add the md5 verification step in the 1st post. I'm sure that a lot of users wonder why small .md5 files are offered.

Too much to add to an already too long a description.
Consider:
* Those users are probably using an OS that does not display extensions.
* If they do not recognize it, they don't know how to use it nor have an application to use it with.

The links were already cleaned up by a forum moderator before you deleted them. It would have been better to leave them (as modified) to preserve thread continuity. See where I quoted your post.

Only files for your kindle model, but you have multiple download locations to choose from. The .bin files are firmware. The .md5 files contain MD5 file verification metadata. It is a good idea to verify the large firmware update files after downloading, using an MD5 verification tool (mentioned previously in this thread).
