Back in the day I used to turn the TV sound off for North Stars games and listen to Al Shaver on the radio instead while watching.

But LED lighting does make the set thinner, and lighter, and more energy efficient, all properties that don't play well with big heavy powerful audio amps and speakers! Hence the anemic built-in sound systems.

Okay I know nothing then what is on the box. It's got amazing sound compare to HDTVs I've watched. I was shock how loud it is on just 5 and all the settings. Our Sony's sound sucks thus the need for headphones to hear anything but this little TV is louder then our 46" Bravia on just 10 and had really good BASS settings for music.

The headphones just don't work well for some reason.

That's very surprising for a TV of that type, but good!
I wonder if maybe you also have good acoustics in your TV room?

My old, original 32" LCD set, a relatively big, heavy thing with fluorescent lighting and relatively big front-facing speakers sounded pretty good, but the sound died and I have to use PC speakers plugged into the headphone jack on that one now.

OK, digressing a lot now, sorry. I like TV.

Our Sony was in there and you couldn't hear it unless it was on 25 or more then it was muffled and you can't hear clear speech unless everyone was quiet. This little TV is loud enough to hear in the whole apartment when only on 10. We haven't tested how loud it can go because of neighbors. It is surprising to us too my brother's 70" LCD TV isn't that loud. I didn't know a HDTV could sound so good.

Yup, I've watched movies in airplanes on someone else's headrest and not had a problem following what was going on. I probably could have started the moving on my own, but I wasn't that interested. I just happened to catch the second half of someone else's movie. Most movies aren't that complicated and while it's probably funnier to hear what they say, you get the gist of it.

Ha! Yeah, that happens. But Husband rarely reads in front of the TV like I do. And there comes a point if the book is good when I don't bother to look up!!!

I can only imagine how boring it would have been to watch an NFL game be called by Howard Cosell and "Dandy" Don Meredith in silence, especially the day Howard was drunker than a skunk!

Discounts have been quite frequent since late November, but I don't know if they'll continue in the near-term. If you purchase at full price and the Paperwhite's discounted soon after, Amazon's very good about refunding or crediting the difference.
