Damn, that Vertigo sale is full of awesome stuff, but the timing is awful, right after those huge Image and Batman sales.

I was thinking of picking up Ex Machina, as I enjoyed everything I've read from Brian K. Vaughan (Saga, Y: The Last Man, and The Pride of Badhgad, although The Pride of Baghdad is not nearly as good as the other two). But it seems to get very mixed reviews. Has anyone here read it?

And I have always wanted to read Transmetropolitan, but it's 10 volumes. I would feel bad spending that much right now. Is it really that good? And how about Preacher?

Damn. Why didn't they wait until Christmas for this sale? I should be strong and stop buying comics with DRM, but it's not that easy to find affordable comics in English here in Spain.

If anyone's interested in recommendations from the sale:

Peter David's Supergirl (the 1996-2003 version) is a truly excellent run. It started off a little shaky with a lot of obligatory crossover guest appearances, but soon became one of the most interesting and entertaining comics I've ever read in its own right, with an unusual and often deadpan humorous take on the Supergirl mythology and the nature of heroism and redemption and the legacy of a "brand name" mantle, and remained at an overall fairly high level of quality until the end. I really enjoyed it and still wish it hadn't been summarily cancelled so that apparently they could introduce the new version of Kara as Supergirl. Highly recommended.

The Mark Waid run of Supergirl & the Legion of Super-Heroes (following from his "threeboot" Legion of Super-Heroes before Supergirl showed up in the 31st century; which had very funny fake panels of the characters reading the lettercolumns in the early issues and answering reader questions) is also quite good. It's not so good once Tony Bedard starts writing near the end, IMHO, since he's not nearly as skilled as Waid, but ISTR that he does an okay job of wrapping up the characters for the last few issues.
